Squeaky windscreen wiper mechanism

One of my wipers is squeaking annoyingly in all this lovely weather we are having.

My garage has traced it to the mechanism & has been unable to source a replacement wiper linkage & so thinks it will have to be an engineering solution - anyone had anything similar ?

Mine is doing it very occasionally. I have no idea as to cause or solution but will watch this with interest.
