PS 3 turning itself off??

Ive noticed recently,as I turn on my PS 3 the usual way by pressing the PS button on the control pad it comes on,green and blue light appears as normal then it beeps three times and turns itself off.
If I then press the power button on the console it will come on and be fine.

It started intermittantly but is now doing it virtually every time.Once up and running it is fine and will shut down the usual way.
Anyone else having this problem?Its not a major issue,just wondering if it could be the start of something more serious.

The sequence you get when turning it on via the PS button is exactly the way mine old one behaved after it died; only it wouldn't turn on correctly using any method.

I'm not an expert, but I suspect it's the beginning of the end.

Don't bother getting it repaired, it will break again. New ones are cheap enough.

Take it apart and stick the board in the oven for a short term fix, but as others have said, probably time to buy a new one.

My original "fat" 60gb model did that a few times before it eventually died with my GT5 promo disc still in it! Had to open the thing up to get the disc out and then bought a new slim.

My fat version started doing that and i striped the thing down as far as i could and blew all the accumulated dust with an airline (low pressure of course).

Needless to say, that was last year and it hasn't done it again and from that point has run quieter than it ever has.

I now give the unit a good blow through every month with a vacuum attached to the exit ports.

For gods sake don't stick it in the oven as thats only what you do when the thing goes bang completely.

Back everything up off it sharpish while it's still running, mine did this before dying and once it's gone you can't use the hard disk in a new one or transfer the data over. I had mine repaired and as mentioned above it died again prety soon while under repair warranty (like a complete knob I still didn't back it up). Lost all game saves except GT5 (phew)

Cheers for the replies guys.TBH there is not much on the hard drive I am too bothered about so if it goes it goes! Its had some serious hammer and has lasted a hell of a lot longer than a lot of peoples i know and whos to say It might not keep on going...

when my ps3 died i got it repaired by some guy in camden same day on a sunday for 45 pounds. still works perfectly after 2 months of hardcore gaming.
