Best deal advice on Nitron Sport Shocks

Guys,

Looking online I don't seem to be able to find anywhere where I can get a full set of Nitrons for less than 20 monkeys, once VAT is added. (£1000)

Anyone know a good parts dealer that is aggressive on price?

20 monkeys! That is expensive. I think you meant 40 ponies!

Well I always though a monkey was £50, and a pony £20, and 40 ponies is £800, so if you can get them for that, I'd be well happy!

I've just had a look around and I think you are doing well if you can get nitrons for 1k. Cheapest I can find is about £1,300. By the time you have had them fitted and the geo done I think you will be looking at £1,600+

Are you set on the Nitrons? I have been hearing good things about the Gaz Mono's and they come in a little cheaper.

I was £1274 with Eibach Spring from power. Fitting was free in my garage and and hours or so's work Geo set up was around the £130 mark

£20 - no, you're thinking of a score. I've always thought a monkey was £500 and a pony £25. Certainly in casinos is you ask for a pony you get a £25 chip.

I can't think what £50's are...

Never really seen any deals on them with dealers/suppliers. Occasionally (very occasionally) come up on eBay. I managed to get a front pair of three ways on eBay for a couple of hundred. Then had them sent to Nitron for a rebuild, revalve and rebody (they were shorter race spec), also had them fitted with Eibach springs and Nitron set them up for so I wouldn't have much fiddling to do once they were on the car. For the few months I ran with them (before the diff broke) they felt perfect.

In the end I probably saved myself a couple of hundred over the cost of a pair of three ways. Three ways are quite OTT for a road car, but I figured it wouldn't hurt, especially on the front where I consider the suspension to be quite an important component due to the wheels needing to cope with steering too.

Going this way though can take time. My car has been off the road for a while now whilst I clear some debt and try and find some spare time, before I go about repairing the diff, so I can take my time to keep an eye on PH classifieds and eBay.

Mark from Nitron, here.

Our dealers generally maintain the retail price. Being honest, they are British designed and built - as such, they cost a great deal to make (especially to the tolerances we achieve). There is very little potential for discounts to be offered because of this. Unlike some of the other shocks availble, Nitrons do not have headline retails that are superficially inflated to allow for year-round discounts. This goes some way to explaining why you don't see Nitron in every online shop or dealer; whith most bedroom traders (excuse the term) adopting cheaper (therefore, higher margin) product.

We open our facility doors every year so that people can visit and see for themselves what I have tried to (poorly) describe above.

Direct comparisons with some of the other brands mentioned in this thread require consideration.

Mike, unless you are really set on the Nitrons then why not consider some Protech Shocks. I ran these on my old Cerb and they were great. The difference between them and OEM was very noticeable, but to be honest I could not say that the Cerbs I drove with Nitrons felt any better, just that they rode equally impressively. I was very particular with my Cerb so recommend them. See the link below.

Just bought my shocks directly from Protech, less than half the price of Nitrons, I'm fairly certain for occasional road use they will be more than adequate.....if it ever stops raining we'll see

Got to laugh at the cockney slang
A bag of sand is about as cheap as a set of Nitrons gets! I think str8six are about £1300 fitted
and yes a monkey is £500 lol
