OK, so I've had my new 172 for the grand total of just under 2 weeks, and I'm already thinking of getting rid. I don't know if its the best thing to do or not.

OK, the car itself, is low mileage Phase 1 172 (75K miles). I paid £1400. The car is already in to have the exhaust sorted (its hanging down) and two new tyres (one has a puncture, another has a bulge in the sidewall).

However, the car while it looks nice is too low and the wheels are too big.

Already this thing looks like costing me a fortune.

I think its a fundamentally sound and tidy car, but it needs a fortune spending on it to put it back to standard. What would you do? Flog it and buy a standard one or just put this one back to standard?

What is it that's making you sell? Exhaust and two tyres is hardly a fortune - if you don't like the wheels get out there and find some more suited - plenty of folks out there who regularly change wheels etc.

If it's been modified fairly tastelessly you might find it hard to sell on, but a few careful mods can mean it can easily find a home with an enthusiast-type owner.

Picture of it is in my profile.

But suspension is too low for spirited driving on a b road, wheels too big. Needs new brakes on front.. I wouldn't say it has been tastelessly modded just not to my taste.

New wheels and springs is hardly a big deal to swap back. Put an advert on a RenaultSport owner's website for a swap for good condition standard wheels for your "upgrade super awesome v6 17 inchers" and you'll have standard set in no time at no cost. If the rest of the car is sound, makes no sense to sell up and buy another car with more potential problems...

Because it was very local. It was cheaper than virtually every other one I looked at despite having had a cambelt done where most of the more expensive ones that also happened to be over 100 miles away all needed cambelts doing imminently. It looked nice, although I didn't notice the exhaust, and on the short test drive it didn't grind on me.

Looking back, I probably wouldn't have bought it. But hey ho, sometimes you don't get to know a car properly until its been in your possession a few weeks.

True, but I hoped I would have a few months of driving out of it before I felt the need to put my hand in my pocket, but I've already identified:-

Exhaust - I'll surely end up replacing as its droning noise is now driving me mad

Wheels - I'll surely end up getting standard ones. I'm doubtful anyone in the know would swap 15" genuine wheels for those things.

Suspension - I'll surely end up replacing it all

Brakes - Desperately need doing

Tyres - I would have held off but I'll end up being killed if I don't replace the front two ASAP.

I'm going to end up spending a shed load. Thats why I wondered, why not just sell it and buy a nice standard example.
