DC2 Integra type R or Accord type R??
Discussion
Hi,
I've narrowed down the choice of my sensible ish car to an ATR or a DC2 ITR.
I think I know most of the possible ATR faults (synchro, headlight levellers etc) so now i'm after people's opinions on the 2. Which would you have, & why?
Accord is obviously more practical but either would do me. If I get an ITR it'll have the be the larger headlight JDM model as I'm not keen on the UkDM front end.
& ATR I'd go facelift
So which would you choose? Pros & cons of each? Insurance doesn't bother me, both are fine. It's just down to the driving/known issues of each.
Thanks,
James

It should be a simple choice after you've driven both.
Oh and don't get the ugly generic-looking JDM. Get a proper UK car.
JDM car will be in better condition. Fact. Plus if you already like the looks it's a no brainer. It should be a simple choice after you've driven both.

ITR > ATR any day, unless you're a taxi driver or have kids or something...

Depends when it was imported. If it's a JDM that's been in this country for a while and wasn't professionally undersealed...it could be rotten to all hell.
UK cars rot badly though anyway, they're much of a muchness when it comes to rot like all Honda's of that vintage. As for the 2 cars, drive them both. I've only driven the DC2 but from what I've been told the Accord is a very good car. If you can get one for your budget go for the JDM Accord Euro R. They are rare though but look very cool.

Dear j n,
I had an early ATR from new for 10 years. I have no experience of the ITR, my only opinions ('coz we all have them, right?
) are formed from t'internet.
You might post the same question on another board, there are owners' clubs out there, or even our own PH Honda forum.
The cars are very different. The Integra is a sports car. The Accord is a sports saloon. That succinctly pigeonholes them for me.
They both have the do-what-it-says-on-the-tin VTEC experience. The ITR is much more performance oriented, especially suspension. The ATR is exceptionally balanced and precise for a mildly large car. The best FWD chassis I have had and that's what sold me the car.
Neither has a particularly interesting interior, sparse even, but that means less weight, even the ATR's rear windows are manual. The ATRs seats are also incredibly comfortable.
If you do go for an ATR then do get one with A/C. T'was optional. If you do long journeys then about 6hrs in there's a fair bit of heat soak into the drivers footwell and without A/C you'll get cooked plates [/cockernee],
regards,
Jet

If I had the choice between the 2 i'd pick the Integra. Although they are meant to be quite raw, noisy, problems with rust, interior isn't as nice.
If I was doing a lot of miles i'd definitely have the ATR instead, the ATR is meant to be a cracker too. I've narrowed my next car down to these 2, heart is ITR, head is ATR. The DC2 is widely regarded as the best fwd ever made, and that's the reason it's likely going to be my next car.

The ITR DC2 is the BEST fwd car I've been in or driven, simply amazing. Although I do personally much prefer the UKDM front end.I've narrowed down the choice of my sensible ish car to an ATR or a DC2 ITR.

Not driven an ACR, although I suspect it would be slightly more refined, comfy and practical. A bit heavier too, so probably not as nimble or flighty.
However I suspect you'll buy more ACR for your money.
EDIT:
The biggest thing against the ACR for me is you can't get them in white! Despite Honda promoting white ones in the day. In normal colours they just don't stand out or look as "wow" as an ITR. That said, depending on budget and who/what would be going in it, I'd seriously consider either.

ITR would be better to drive and more raw.
But the accord is not be sniffed at.
Integra: Raw, great drive on the limit, balanced. Can get a bit tiring sometimes on a long run.
Accord all of the above with a little less rawness and feeling but more comfortable and four doors!
I miss my Integra, one of the best cars I ever owned, it was epic fun.

Integra DC2 is light on it's feet and extemily nimble. Driven one many times and the b18c lump will rev forever although there is practically nothing bottom end
The Accord's H22A7 VTEC is a more muscular powerplant with more torque low down (but still not much), for a larger car it handles amazingly. The limited slip diff is brilliant. It is a heavier car though, so if you are simply after a driver's car then the DC2 Teg is your ticket. The pre-facelift Accords looks much meaner with a deeper front splitter and polished chrome-tipped exhausts.
I had a pre-facelift Accord Type R for 2 years and it was the best car I have ever had.

Jazz, you've had an Accord & driven an ITR multiple times? If it was your money, for a daily that's still fun, where would that money get spent?
I know it's personal opinion, I love both, & haven't found any Type R owners with a single negative thing to say about the car!
I don't need to carry passengers, the option is nice, but the ITR has rear seats if really needed!
Tricky decision, thanks a lot for all the advice, it's appreciated!
If there's anyone near Suffolk/Essex that would be prepared to take me out in either one that would be great, I'd of course sort them a beer or 2
Difficult decision, but a nice one to have to make! Both look a lot of fun! I'd have a UKDM if the right one came up for the right price, just prefer the JDM model.

Having driven a DC2 and been a passenger in an ATR i would hands down go with the DC2 given the choice. Both are great cars but the DC2 just felt very special, probably the only japanese car I've ever sat in and not been disappointed by the interior, yes the plastics arnt great but its design has aged well (especially at the side of other map cars from that period). It was a UK DC2 i went out in but i personally think the JDM is the better looking of the two. As has been said above if you do buy a JDM import make sure its been undersealed properly as they are rust prone when used on our salt gritted roads.

The Integra is 200kgs lighter and when you push it you feel it. It is light, very responsive and as nimble as any FWD driver out there (including RS Clios). The steering feel is brilliant. The Integra redlines extremily high, way over 8k, and it reaches peak torque pretty high as well. If you are in the lower revs you'll find TDi's zooming past.

The Accord is also very peaky although it redlines at 7.2k revs, but its got a far wider torque band.
For a daily that was still fun I would probably go for the Accord. The Teg is a bit tinny, plenty of road noise and it rides harder. The Accord is also quite stiff but its also comfier, slightly more relaxed companion day to day.
If you value handling and maniac-appeal over all else then go and test drive an Integra.
Ultimately, you won't really be dissapointed with either.

I'd lean towards the Accord if I was on a finite budget that wouldn't get me the best DC2, however.
For the same money, I'd hope that a budget would get a better Accord than Integra.
I recall when a friend of mine had an Accord when they were first released .... What an engine!!! They still sound fantastic today.
