Discussion
I'm test driving the above having not driven a manual 997 before how do I know if have quick shift fitted? Also what else to check?
Spec aero body kit, pse, suspension button, 10000 miles, aftermarket daytime led on front. Prob a bit more but only briefly saw it seeing it more later today when I test drive her.

The throw on a quick shift is very short and quite notchy. If you've not driven a manual 997 before it might be difficult to tell, but standard throw is, to my mind, a little long.Spec aero body kit, pse, suspension button, 10000 miles, aftermarket daytime led on front. Because the IMS and RMS will fail, and the bores will score and you'll need a whole new engine...
On the other hand nothing will happen at all and you'll be fine. Personally I sleep better with a warranty, but horses for courses.
If the VIN goes like this WPOZZZ99Z9S7xxxxx it should be a Gen 2 anyway, so the above may not apply. On the other hand nothing will happen at all and you'll be fine. Personally I sleep better with a warranty, but horses for courses.

isnt "coking" the new IMS/RMS/Bore-Score etc etc?

I posted a link a few weeks ago to a thread on 6-speed that proves this not to be the case. A guy in the good ol' US of A was having an X-51 kit fitted to his Gen-2 997 and photographed the valves for all to see. The engine had done 26,000 miles and there was only mild surface carbonising of the valve backs and intake port walls - far less than you'd expect in a DFI engine and a million miles away from the problems Audi had with their engines.khushy
Piccy again below for those who didn't see it last time....

At this level of spend, I would get a gen 2 car with the better engine.

Can't help with the shifter question, but the car is just a used car so you should check *everything*.Spec aero body kit, pse, suspension button, 10000 miles, aftermarket daytime led on front. Prob a bit more but only briefly saw it seeing it more later today when I test drive her.
What I recommend is visit the car with it dead cold. Be sure the A/C is off. (You can check this after the test ride/drive.)
Be sure the CEL and all other warning lights come on when you turn on the key and go off when the engine starts.
Listen to the engine idle as it warms up. It should sound ok. What is ok and what is not ok comes from experience listening to healthy and sick engines, but generally you should not hear any distinct, repeating ticks, knocks, and so on.
Have teh seller take you on a 15 mile test ride. Insist this cover a route that the driver can demo the car in a variety of scenarios. Idling, stop and go, cruising, high speed, hard acceleration, with various levels of braking to match.
Back at the starting line you take the car out as a driver and follow the same route, drive the car the same way.
The engine should behave at all times, pull smooth from idle to redline and after an upshift and with continued throttle.
Once back after your test drive, then you can check the rest of the car out, if you still like the car.
Then if you still like the car, believe you can make a deal for it, have it PPI'd. This comes after the test ride/drive for this activity will help manifest any fluid leaks.
Sincerely,
Rockster.
