Skoda vRS - octavia and fabia estate & leasing??
Discussion
Right then.
I did some man maths last night and calculated my 52 plate Volvo V70 D5 auto has cost me just short of £300/month to run over the last 2 years (inc depreciation, service costs, tax, MOT, insurance, bits n bobs). This price will likely decrease the longer I keep the car, but they are prone to going wrong in ways that make them uneconimical to repair unfortunately, it's also crap on fuel round town (where it's used mostly), brilliant car though.
Work do a salary sacrafice car lease scheme (NHS) and I've been looking at Skoda as a replacement.
I could get an Octavia vRS Estate 170bhp diesel, manual for £440/month.
Or a Fabia vRS estate 180bhp petrol, DSG (1.4 turbo) for £387/month.
I'm realise the Fabia A). looks weird B) Is much smaller than a Volvo V70 and C) Isn't perceived as "good" but 180 bhp from a 1.4 turbo petrol with DSG sounds like a right laugh, it's just whether it's big enough.
The Octavia I think is a decent enough car, I'd prefer a DSG's petrol but CO2 above 150 menas it's not in the list
The lease is 3 years, includes all servicing, insurance, tyres and you don't have to pay a deposit.
Just wondered if anyone has any good/bad/indifferent experiences of these 2 cars, oh and is this lease thing a good idea?

This is what they quote
A quick comparison using Lings cars (nutter) for the same Octavia has it on a 3+£497.89 deal.
So quite a bit more???

Waaaay over priced on the Fabia
Total payable on the Fabia would be £13932 in just three years. Yes that includes maintenance but that's really cheap anyway.
I bought mine 2nd hand for £13000, tax £135PA, Tyres £100 a corner and services £120.
So you'd have to be a bit silly to get into a lease at that price IMO

What's the car like then?
I really like mine, great fun to drive and it is really quite quick. 0-100mph is around 17/18 secs. Overtaking is an absolute doddle!
The ride is firm. but not overly so, has never felt anywhere near uncomfortable to me.
You do get a fair bit for your money, and I think the running costs are really low for the performance on offer.
in less you drive very light footed everywhere (Which would need to include m'ways) don't expect to get anywhere near 45mpg. I get 35mpg no problem.
Don't be put off about all off the unreliablility stories in relation to the 1.4 TSI engine it uses. They come with a 3 year 60k mile warranty, which can be extended to 5 years/100k miles anway.
Wouldn't recomend it if you're going to do more than 15k miles PA. It's not quite refined enough for that, but perfectly acceptabe for anything under IMO.
Happy to answer any specific questions shuld you have any.

I'd get a test drive booked in, its the only way to prospect new cars!
It's a shame, I used to be in Leeds myself and would have offered for you to come around and have a look and a ride.
I will say that I've driven the Octavia (Not the vRS) and they are very very different cars.
The Octavia felt a lot better built (By a very large margin.) and more refined. But on balance it's considerably larger and thirstier with the petrol performance equivalent.
Let us know how you get on OP.
