Recommend a TV for PS3

Ok, I've given up on getting any time on GT5 with my PS3 being plugged into the "family" TV in the lounge, so am moving it to a spare room elsewhere and need recommendations on size and type of TV.
It'll be used pretty much exclusively for gaming and I'll be sitting between 5-7ft away at the most. So what size is best at this range? 32/40/42?
I'm assuming LCD over plasma? Is there any issues with frequency on LCD?
Sound isn't a consideration as I'll be running an external amp.
Also, where is best to buy? Not in a huge rush so mail order is fine.
Anything else I should consider? Looking to keep the budget to as low as possible, but willing to spend more if there is a "must have" technology coming that the PS3 can take advantage of.

I'm running a 32" Celcus LCD TV. Not a brand anyone has heard of, but work had them on a manager's special at £199, less 15% staff discount meant I paid £170. I have had no problems with the LCD screen, most of the time I'm within 7ft of it (uni accommodation=small room!) and the quality is pretty decent. I was originally planning on a 24" Sony Bravia, but they were £250+ at the time. I would have liked an LED screen rather than LCD, but at the price they were offering this one at I can't complain too much. Look around the big 4 supermarkets, they all do TVs and often have deals on those brands you never knew existed until you went into the shop. They last quite well, previously I had a Neon 19" HDTV from Morrisons, paid under £100 for it just after my 18th birthday, it lasted for 4 years which apparently is the norm according to the guy in Currys who was surprised at my dad's old TV which lasted 12 years!
The only downside is these weird branded TVs from supermarkets often only have 1 HDMI input. If you've only got the PS3 to run, then that's no problem, but I also have the Apple TV and my laptop that I want to run, but amazon will do you a 4 way splitter for under a tenner.
It's probably worth checking out Currys, Comet and such, they may have some good deals, also John Lewis have their own branded TVs which are pretty reasonable. But for a low price you can't really beat the supermarkets. Right now the Morrisons near me has a 32" Neon LED TV for £240. Not bad.

32" and 720p for that distance/use - hardly any games output true 1080p.

I have a 32" Samsung LED 1080p TV (I sound like a Currys advert!) and it works a treat at that distance. Great clarity, colour depth is brilliant for Forza and the menus and remote are very well designed.
I also use the in-built freeview for some TV and internet and I'm very impressed! Was an Amazon special about 4 months ago that I managed to get for £289.

If I could afford it I'd go with the plasma screen any day, they are meant for fast moving images so would be perfect for gaming. Having not used anything other than LCD TVs and the old CRT things for the PS1 and PS2, I don't notice the motion blur but probably would if I had a better TV.

Ideally I would have plasma, but when using the PS3 on the current plasma I definitely get image retention which I'd be concerned would become permanent if this was its only use..Just to close this off....ended up going for this LED TV:

Very pleased with it - perfect size for the room, appears to be backlit LED, very low power consumption, surprisingly lightweight, built-in Freeview HD gives a fantastic picture. No noticeable (to my eyes) lag or motion blur, so turned out perfect.
