Hello,

Couple of quick questions..

is the VED really only £270? if so that's hilarious given how quick they are and an original ST is in the £400 odd bracket (right?)

secondly - can some one explain the lux packs to me? they seem to be the only real options

also can i have your views on how the packs affect residuals?

personally i don't give a monkeys about extra electrical stuff.. it's more to go wrong frankly - most interested in performance with least terrible economy!

also was there any difference between a 2009 and a 2010? the prices seem very different for just a few thousand miles and a bit of ford warranty left...

and now a controversial question but it is just a question.. is it possible to go to 18"s...? has anyone done this? it just struck me that for the money you could probably get some very high spec 18" tyres and possibly even improve B road pace.. (although i saw that one in the classifieds on CSL esque 20"s.. phwoar etc)

thanks in advance.

Re the tax yes the MK2 is only £270 as it's in band K. It's the 500 that costs £460 as it's in band L eek

Can't answer the other questions, but might be worth asking on here - www.focusrsoc.com/forums - as they should have a pretty good idea.

The options for the RS were as follows,

Base spec cloth seats standard aircon

Luxury Pack 1 - DEATC Dual Zone Climate Control, Automatic Headlights, Rain Sensor Wipers, Auto-Dim rear view Mirror, Rear Parking Distance sensors, Tyre Deflation Detection System, Ford Keyless Go system, powerfold wing mirrors, Sony 6 disc cd player DAB radio

Luxury Pack 2 same as lux 1 - but instead of the Sony cd/radio has Ford Advanced Touch Screen DVD Navigation System, Rear View Camera.

The following could be added seperately as stand alone options,

Bluetooth Hands Free System, IPod Dock / MP3 Connectivity, Voice Control System.

Dynamica Partial Leather Recaro Interior.

There were a few very minor trim changes between 2009 & 2010 on models,

2009 models had the auto fold mirror switch combined with the interior sensor switch, 2010 had this moved & incorperated into the mirror adjustment switch

2009 models had a protruding starter switch, the 2010 model had a flush switch.

Hope that helps.

ST's are not in the higher banding for tax. They are 224 g/km.

There are several brands of 18" lightweight forged wheels on the market, wrap them in some med-hard R888 or AD048 and you're on to a winner. Be aware the front arch gap is already about an inch with the 19's fitted so aesthetically, you may wish to lower the car, EiBach Pro kit is warranty approved and available from Ford or Mountune. It lowers 20mm max (Settles differently on each car) and therefore is a cheap (Circa £200) way of achieving this.
I've seen a few people trade in a 59 to a 10 plate. Personally, the differences in trim are negligible. Its not like there is actually anything different inside. What Gareth has put is correct, but i'm damn sure my auto fold switch is on the mirror adjustment panel - its a 59 plate. My alarm switch is mounted beside the door handle and is a separate entity.
Economy wise I get a true average of 24.7mpg (Worked out on paper with pens and man math instead of the trip computer) but mine is running 350bhp and isn't exactly driven slowly. I get circa 330mi to a tank. Lowest I've seen is 5mpg and that was on Brands hatch. I've seen odd bracketing for the RS, standard examples are £270PA. The odd one or two I saw at £400, but i'm assuming that is the old showroom first year tax. I bought mine tax free, military discount, so avoided that.

I believe the auto fold switch was moved around November 2009 ish, so yes your 59 plate could well have the later switch.

Also the later cars had 1 touch starting, where you put foot on clutch / brake & just have to tap the starter button, where as on the early cars, you have to hold the start button until it fires!

Also a few other changes are, on the nav equipped cars, 2009 models had a 2008 disc & the 2010 cars had an updated 2010 disc.

2010 cars also had the modified snow shield fitted ( the early ones had a tendancy to collapse)

Check that the 2009 cars had the 2 recalls done, 1 for the engine undershield modified clips & 2, for the hard brake pedal (remap).

Mine was delivered on Nov 5 2009 - it has the relocated autofold switch.

Thanks everyone by the way.

so there is no difference! wink

So i think what i need to look out for is a lux pak 1 and fancy seat upgrade model. i love the interior with the alcantara(esque) seats. not personally so much of a fan of the other seats which 'match' the ST ones (grey with colour coded inserts).

hmm. what to do what to do!

same car for 7 years. i like caymen of which there are loads but i think the engine will break. i like wuropas but there are only ever 3 for sale..andso i have thought about a posher hot hatch and the RS would take me back to me ford roots! hmm...

or i could me mean and stay in my (slow) MCS...!

That's what I have - the standard seats look very easy to get dirty. Lux 2 offers a sat nav & only one cd plus no DAB radio. To me doesn't seem worth it.

USB/Bluetooth is worth having, don't know how many had this or not.

Agreed, mine has:

Lux 1 - 6 CD and DAB is brilliant!
iPod & Bluetooth
Half Leather/Alcantara Seats

I can read a map and remember navigational routes so... No need for satnav haha.

I absolutely love mine.. Its been tinkered with.. But.. Still my daily driver

I'm always amazed how much car makers charge for sat nav; in this case it was a £750 option, with a worse stereo.

Looking at a BMW next and their satnav prices are hilarious, and yet people seem to spec them.

I've got the sat nav in my RS and it's fully loaded .
As for the sound system im old so im not into banging tunes out that everyone in the street can hear , so the single slot cd does me fine , and seeing how im often at different places around the country the sat nav is worth it's weight in gold as im always going places on my own which makes reading a map difficult unless i stop every few miles .

Can't really bang out Bach, mozart and Beethoven! That's a fair enough point I guess.

Personally, I would have saved the money and gone and fit a pioneer AVIC double din with all the bells and whistles, for just a little more money.

The sat nav is surprisingly good. It has traffic master updates and has never really let me down. I do miss the DAB that I had in my previous Focus ST though!

The actual sound quality of the touchscreen nav is fairly average really, but it is easy to play songs off a memory stick and also has good phone integration.

I am getting between 26 and 28 average MPG, mostly 27 MPG, whilst still using the perfromance. I have the Mounune MP350 pack, and I would suggest this is almost a must have! for me it made the car much better to drive, and I even noticed a small improvement in MPG. It also means you don't have the higher tax band of the RS500, but you do have the same performance!

Just make sure you're prepared to spend on front tyres, I seem to get between 6000-8000 miles out of them. It's my everyday car, no trackdays or anything like that.

I noticed a tiny improvement in mpg with the MP350 pack too. Though I get 23-24 mpg and new front tyres every 5-6k.

To answer the op why would you change the wheels?

The original alloys are gorgeous.

They are great cars - a proper weapon with practicality.
