Cars you thought cost a lot more than they actually do.

ETA Misread the OP's comment regarding the Clio! My apologies.
Scooby's don't seem cheap enough considering they're up to £450 to tax, 25mpg and comparatively very expensive to insure.
I've often heard of people saying just build the running costs into the lower purchase price. But to me they seem to fetch the same values (In terms of % depreciation.) as a lot of normal cars...

Have to disagree on the Clio, £15k for a 10 year old Clio thats was £25k originally. Doesn't seem cheap to me.

Surely religious servicing with any car will ensure long life and sound reliability.
Corner cutting etc comes back to bite you hard.
Oil servicing on the dot
Coolant changes every two years
Brake fluid change every two years
Air con regas every two years
Gearbox oil every 100k
Always keep an eye on coolant temp if not rock steady once up to temp thermo has gone change straight away
Cambelt if you have one on time along with water pump and tensionsrs
The rest is as and when it wears out.
You could be anal and do engine mounts change all silicon every ten years etc a ball ache to do and with most cars not needed really but if it's a long term keeper sensible then worry free for another ten years.

Gutted at selling this for only £2900 the other week, with fsh and 12 months MOT, no hot or cold starting issues and handling to die for:

It was sold to the first (only) person to call in 7 weeks of being advertised with a steadily dropping price. Tough market out there!
