The Supercar Event - Autosolo Taster
Discussion
Hi guys, For PH members who may have missed my prior posts in each thread regarding the autosolo taster which will be at this years super car event I thought I’d give you a heads up.
I’ll be helping my local car club – Farnborough District Motor Club who are running the taster session on both Saturday and Sunday and being a fully fledged PH member as well I thought I’d let you all know that I’d be there.
I really can’t recommend having a go enough, the grin factor for me is 10/10
To give you a brief round up of my autosolo experience; I’ve been competing this year (my first year) in a couple of autosolos via FDMC which are held throughout the Surrey and Hampshire area, all in the clio 172 cup, with my best result being 2nd in class and 14th overall (out of 47) which I was quite pleased with. First impressions of ‘soloing is that it’s all about ‘technical’ car control rather than flat out speed. Not only this but the knowledge gained of how your car responds is priceless, not many places where you can try to improve driving abilities in a controlled environment, with the worst case scenario being taking a cone out. And of course there’s the competitive side of things which changes the whole experience for the better if you ask me.
I’ve come across a couple of PH members at the ‘solo events already, most recently ‘pewe’ and daughter in his supercharged MX5. But it would be nice to expand the autosolo scene a bit further and hopefully tempt a few more bodies to come along and have a go.
For those who have never come across an autosolo before here’s a general overview:
‘An autosolo has a series of timed, all forward courses, on hard surfaces. The routes are made as easy as possible, so you can concentrate on achieving your fastest time, rather than remembering the way. Compared to traditional autotesting, the tests don’t involve specialist techniques such as spin turns, are significantly longer and can involve a little more speed through corners. It’s a relatively new form of low cost, non specialist motor sport for the UK, using road going cars and equally enjoyable for novices and experienced competitors.’
So if you want to put your money where your mouth is then feel free to swing by and have a go or even if you want to have a chat feel free to come over. I’ll be there in the blue clio cup, I should have a few smilies on it by then as well. I will be using my car as a demonstrator along with a few other FDMC members so come and watch if you like! (I know it doesn’t quite have the same allure as a Zonda or F40 et al hooning around the TG test track but we’re only a couple of minutes away).
Last year saw new members signing up to motor clubs, one in particular drives his Chimera at most ‘solos which is a joy to watch and hear seeing as he has a heavey right foot!
Should you have any queries please let me know.
Hopefully see you there, Alan.

I'm guessing that will be Andre, he's constantly trying to get me to come along, I went round the autosolo last year in my friends Tuscan. Great fun and do fancy getting out at one of the events.
