Why haven't I got a reverse light?

A mate pointed out the other day that my reverse light wasn't working. Assuming it would be a bulb or a dodgy connection, I've only today noticed that my reverse light section (white bit) has either been tinted red, or I've got one UK and one Euro light!
The reason I had to reverse light was because the bulb had been taken out.
I haven't noticed any others like this, so presume it must have been something the previous owner wanted to do.
Surprised it passed the MOT though!
