Evo 6 RS Build

Good afternoon chaps,
I have been a long time lurker on here so decided to finally sign up and share my Evo 6 RS build with you and also how I ended up here over the last few years so apologies for any waffle!
I originally bought an Evo 9 FQ320 in 2008 and modded it to 400/400 but got bitten by the trackday bug so sold it and bought a 6 RS Sprint in November 2010 as I wanted something more track focused. The RS was running around 460bhp and was an absolute animal to drive as it spooled up so quickly and it cornered so much better than the 9 due to much less weight and a more aggressive geo setup. But typically, I wanted more power and more grip so set about stripping the car for seam welding and lightening the shell as well as putting a cage in it. This is when I discovered that the shell was pretty rotten and was going to cost twice as much as originally planned just to get it back into a decent state so the decision was made to source another 6 RS shell and transplant everything across. Within a week, I found a shell that was made to the exact same spec I had originally planned for the RS Sprint, so an offer was made and the new shell was secured.
It is a 1999 Evo 6 RS, originally imported to the UK in 2009 and taken off the road after less than a year to be built as a sprint car for a well known Evo specialist as their demo car. The shell is fully seam welded and lightened with the suspension turrets strengthened to cope with the extra stress they would be subjected to. It has also had the spare wheel well on the boot cut out and replaced with a flat section and had the transmission tunnel modified to allow me to run the later model transfer box which can handle bigger numbers. There is a Custom Cages T45 weld in cage with a T45 front cross bar and rear diff mounting point for safety and extra chassis stiffness and the usual door bars and harness mounts. To reduce weight as much as possible, there is a Varis carbon fibre roof, bonnet, front bumper and bootlid with standard rear spoiler to comply with MSA regs, fibreglass doors with lexan windows side and rear and a lightened, heated front screen. The exterior of the car was painted in Ruri blue from the Evo 9, the same colour as my 9, and the interior, engine bay and underside painted in graphite grey.




Once the sale had been completed, I got the shell delivered to Nick at NR Autosport who is one of the best in the business in my opinion and wouldn't hesitate recommending him to anyone wanting work doing on their Evo. I had spent a weekend travelling over to Nick's from here with a van load of Evo bits off the RS Sprint a few weeks before the shell arrived so the build could get started.
After all of the bits were back from the powdercoaters, work began bolting it all back together with the subframes and suspension going on along with the brakes.


Then Nick started on the wiring loom, stripping everything that was not required and adding a few extras in. He also managed to get the engine in and has done a complete wire tuck on the engine bay with only the reserve wire from the gearbox being visible as there is nowhere to hide it!



So this is where we are to date and we are thinking it will be finished in a few months time. I will update the thread as and when I have any notable reports.

Nice car! But what's the point of the "wire tuck"? Shirley you want the exact opposite, i.e. wiring easily accessable ?? ;-)
It makes working in the engine bay a lot easier and the wiring is very easily accessible from behind the dash which is where it has all been relocated 
The reason is definitely not just cosmetic.
