Just looking around for a 3-series, found one, just after some PH opinions.
2008 '58 330d Touring M Sport. Auto, Grey. iDrive, Xenons, Paddleshift, Panoramic roof, 2 previous owners (apparently a demo then one owner after that), 85,000 miles.
Not got any info on service history/receipts yet, awaiting the dealer to get back to me (independant, not main dealer)
£15,950.

I'm no BMW fanatic but considering one in the future.
Are these cars really worth the extra money over some alternatives of the same age:
A civic type r with 25000 miles £8500
A focus st with 40000 miles £10k
An Astra vxr with 30000 miles £8500
The 330 is almost twice the price of these - are they twice as good?

Totally different car . a 330d will still be worth 8k when you are seeing the cars you list as 1k hacksAre these cars really worth the extra money over some alternatives of the same age:

How are hot hatches "alternatives" to an auto diesel estate car, other than them sharing a year of build? Of course everything is an alternative to everything else, but those seem some arbitrarily applied criteria. Alternatives that might more realistically be considered are a Mondeo/Accord/Insignia estate with a 200bhp+ diesel engine & autobox, of a similar vintage at a cheaper price. Or a similar "premium" (key word) brand alternative such as a C-Class estate, A4 Avant with comparable engines etc. Are these cars really worth the extra money over some alternatives of the same age:
A civic type r with 25000 miles £8500

Is a BMW 130i M Sport really worth the extra money (does it in fact cost significantly more?) over the "alternatives" you mention? Is an Audi S3? I'd say that where premiums exist for similar vehicles of differing brands - they are "worth the extra", because those are the prices people are willing to pay for them. If they weren't, they'd have similar prices.
Twice the price = twice as good? Look into what is meant by "law of diminishing returns" or "law of increasing relative cost". Things like "better" and "worth" are subjective terms and as such, not readily reconcilable with simple logic.

If those saying it is too highly priced can find me the same spec vehicle for the price you think it should be, i shall have your babies.
If you really want that exact specification, then fine and pay the price accordingly. The seller will be aware that similarly high spec cars aren't really out there presently so has priced accordingly. To me, £14k+ is an awful lot of wedge for any 80k+ mile cooking 3 Series. But I'd consider trading a few options for it having covered 60,000 fewer miles: http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
This one doesn't exactly look poor either at 48k miles: http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
Or sticking with the mileage, pocket £5k by going for a lovely petrol six instead: http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
Or £3k less for a speccy, 47k miles 335i: http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
Etc.
As ever, it depends how you value mileage against bells and whistles and performance. We're all slightly different in that respect.

I just picked up a 07 330d SE manual touring with idrive/bluetooth/prof stereo/leather with 73000 on the clock for 10500 including a set of winter tyres on bmw alloys. It was a private sale but yours looks very over priced (i think i saw it on auto trader).... I'd say keep looking...
