Car paintwork detailing
Discussion
Had a quote for approx £500 today to bring the paintwork upto showroom standard, all be it not remove all the small scratches.
Makes you think, with a little know how, you could do it yourself and save yourself a few quid.
Anyone point me in the right direction as to what process and materials i would need to obtain/undertake to obtain this finsh please.
Who is the guy who seems to attend Griff Growl,Chimfeast/Roar events etc etc

Have a look at the detailing world forum.
I had a go on mine with Scottds random orbital polisher and paint came up well but nowhere near the standard of the professional detailers.
what colour is car ? I use blackhole glaze which does a great job of masking swirls and minor scratches

I have been looking at this....
I now have some Dodo Juice products, which are:-
Car shampoo
Lime Prime (gets rid of swirls)
Panel pot of Orange Crush (carnuba wax)
Detailing spray
Had a go the other weekend and the results were awesome....
The shine was stunning and I am seriously considering investing in a proper machine polisher.....
Costs thus far circa £40......

I found this recently, looks very interesting, just waiting for the paint to arrive and I'll be trying this out.

Update and results from some DIY detailing...
Bought this lot from Ebay.....

Washed, dried, clay bar'ed the car, pre wax cleaner (lime prime), soft wax and finished with detailing spray....
Very nice results - see for yourself!

and close up, you can see just how deep the shine actually is!!

It's quite easy to get way too involved in it! I have a halfords da which was pretty cheap, got 3 hexlogic pads from chemical guys, nanologic p1 polish which works well as an all in one polish, and poorboys sealant to finish off. I have just built my own sun gun aswell as shown on detailing world so will get some pics when I have a play, always had good results on the BMW, and mine is starmist blue too.
Blackhole is fantastic too to add between polishing and sealing!
Only other advice is to go for bilthammer clay, doesn't need any lube, just use water!

right to give you an idea of what products will do, this is what I got last year with just Black hole (and I think poorboys sealant on top)

Looks lovely I'm sure you will agree,(done by hand btw) but using it solely on poor paintwork isn't great IMO, this was a quick fix for a show, problem is as its a filler or a 'glaze' it wont last. IMO its a good step in between hand polishing and a wax/sealant. if you can get good enough with a DA then you shouldn't really need to use it and best avoided if you can as usually waxes + sealants don't last quite as long if you use a glaze.
you don't have to spend the earth to get all the gear though, I had a quick play with my cheapo DA from halfords and my P! polish and had some pretty good results as you can see:

unfortunately I didn't take my DSLR, there are still some of the deeper scratches in there but waiting till I have a good amount of time free and I can use my friends paint depth gauge.
as you can see my paintwork was not in great condition but Black hole above gets a nice finish but for me I want it done properly.

Excellent effort. Just takes time really doesn't it, and patience claying all paint before polishing. Dodo Juice Supernatural wax is excellent from my experience.
Not tried that would recommend Tim at Cleanyourcar...
I like built hamber autoclay. Car seemed quite tar free, then used merzerna polish on a finishing pad as I didn't want to cut too deeply. Few swirls in there still so probably could have used the other pad I have... maybe next time.
