What's the best stuff to put on a new hood to seal it. Any good experiences?

I used the Auto Glym twin pack thing, has cleaned my hood up very well and it's 100% waterproof, it beads very well. It's 3 for 2 at Halfrauds right now, so maybe you can get a deal and do some othe things whilst you're at it.

Other than that, I hear good things about Renovo, but I've not used it myself.

best place to ask is Detailing world TBH, they are the people who will test all manner of things, will still get a split opinion but it usually comes down to how much you want to spend. I there was one that I used from them which was very good before I sold my old car and pretty darn cheap aswell!

Don't bother with spray on sealers, they only dust the surface. You'll need to get the silicon deep into the material.

This is my method using Fabsil Link

Hi,

Renovo is generally accepted as one of the best brands for hoods.

I used on it my Z4 and it's quite amazing watching the water from a hose pipe bead off smile

I have used the Auto Glym hood cleaner and water proofer not a great fan of theirs but, its 1st class and does not need to be done every year. I went to Le Mans one year and the water was pooling on the hood but it never came through.

Wyn, Renovo is the best I have used. One of the motor factors in Maesteg (A1 I think) has it on the shelf, so you can find easily enough.

Alex,I meant it for your shoes, ha ha!. Strewth that's what happened in Army National Service days. Toe caps had to be burnished, spit and polished so the Seargeant could see his scowling face reflected in them. Or else it was punishment duties. I expect there are very few of us tvrs who remember those days of Nat Service. Hope your hospital visit went ok. Cheers

That should give you 5 years of leak free motoring. I do mine every 5 years, still dry but the mohair gets dirty so it's worth removing the old dirty wax periodically to freshen up the colour

Thread resurrection!
The link to bobfather's method no longer works, can someone point me in the right direction please? I have a new hood that doesn't seem to have been proofed after fitting (wets out and leaks immediately), and a 5 litre can of fabsil that just arrived.

Thanks.
