OMG Cocktails what has happened to me.

Should I be ashamed?
being a northern bloke the idea of drinking cocktails has never appealed because I dont like being glassed in pubs.
a while ago I was lucky enough to be in the virgin lounge at heathrow and for no other reason than they were free I tried a few in fact they just kept bringing them
Anyway I am addicted to margaritas I cant get enough of the stuff 3 glasses in now and I wont bestopping.
I've eevn just ordered a shaker and a book.
Do I need to stand in the corner?
Try a Manhattan, that's a mans cocktail. Many different versions but this is the one my Dad has drunk every evening of his adult life and he is now 86. I don't know if it is a health drink though
1 small splash of Angustura Bitters
1 shot JD
2 shots sweet Vermouth
1 Maraschino cherry on a stick

Margaritas are fine, don't worry.
Martinis are where it is at (vodka Martinis, gin/flavoured etc - no).

It *needs* be made well - keeping the shaker and glass cool using ice/water and made using excellent vodka.
Missing out chilling the glass ruins the drink, for example - why many people dislike Martinis.
Old Fashioneds - ouch!
At the tender age of 34, I've never had a cocktail. This thread finds me desperately wanting to be Bondesque and ordering one.
Not sure how well they'd make one here in the West Country though. Cider and ale they know; they look at you oddly if you ask for a shandy, so a mixed cocktail might be pushing it.

there only seems to be one downside I seem to miss the drunk part and skip straight into headache and hangover phase.
Fine this morning though. I can't stop drinking it like pop.
Working part time in a bar/restaurant I often get to experiment with cocktails, they are great fun to make even though I'm not the biggest fan of them.
If anyone is interested here is my recipe for Another Fluffer's 'Sweet lime'
Ingredients:
Juice squeezed from 1 lime
75ml sugar syrup
50ml vodka (usually use Smirnoff)
Ice
Method:
Add all ingredients to shaker (best way to get the most juice from the lime is to cut it in half opposite to the grain[?])
Seal shaker and shake very hard as if you are trying to crack the ice for 20ish seconds
Serve in Martini glass with a twist of lime as a garnish.
Not the most manly cocktail but very tasty!

At a friends birthday party a while back we were in a bar and they had the raspberry slush puppie with vodka as a cocktail (can't remember the name)
Everyone that drank it was violently ill ,even me and I was on the cola all night barring the 2 glasses of this evil concoction.
It has a nice taste when you drink it, luring you into a false sense of security.
Something about the syrup just doesn't sit right with the vodka but you will literally be tasting the rainbow when it revisits you.
