OK, so every year we hear the stories about PH members being busted en route to LM. Here's the thread to find out the truth about the numbers, which should put the whole issue into some context. Let us have your stories!

been in 06,08 and 10. Going to the classic this year and never had any issues. but do the cherbourg, St Malo ferrys so may have just been lucky. And every time We made good progress where safe to do so

For the poll to be accurate the number of visits will be needed, otherwise someone with 30 no incident visits will be cancelled out by someone who's been once and caught once!

For me it is 2 fines in 20 consecutive visits. First occasion was 110kmh in a 90kmh zone (urban motorway stretch at Rouen) 90€ fine. Second occasion was for overtaking on a solid line (it was a tractor doing 15kmh and there was at least 1km of clear road ahead), again a 90€ fine.

No complaints from me for either incident and I'll be driving in France in much the same way I do in the UK, ie sometimes above the limit where safe to do so, but not doing the big speeds we used to do in the way to LM.

I intended this poll to be just for 2012, i.e. the coming week, but I neglected to title it properly. Anyway, if you could add the number of times you've driven down to LM then this puts the number of busts into context. Good point Nohedes...

My mate got a 90€ fine the other day for doing 58km/h in a village (50km/h limit)!

Watched some unfortunate Brits in an E39 M5 doing a burnout on Mad Friday just as three French Police motorcycles pulled up behind him. By the time I got through the crowd, they had been pulled over. I wonder what they got, fine or slap on the wrist

Many threads already about speeding anyway, but that would be jail, a fine of 3,750 euros and car sold for state funds. Anything 30mph over the prevailing limit gets the fine and confiscation.

Not "done" Le Man yet, but just got back from visiting Bordeaux region.
While sat nav with speed cameras is illegal, in my experience, the odds of getting caught are slight. Couple that with the French cameras being a bd to spot, worth the risk.
The car I took wasn't comfortable at high speed, if it had been, I would definitely have been flashed.

Those odds are slashed quite dramatically during Le Mans week. Fish and barrels springs to mind.

Mrs Philthy was told how to kill it if necessary. I had mine set to just give an audio alert, not a symbol on screen as well.
Fixed cameras are bad enough in France, they are almost impossible to spot, as they mount them in all sorts of ways. One consistency though, the same as England, if you find yourself thinking "this would be a good spot to put a camera, because it's a stupidly low speed limit", there will be one.
Something I've said before, and most on here will know, drivers flashing their lights at you doesn't mean they are saying hello. They are warning you that the Gendarmerie nationale are out with lasers in front of you. It never ceases to surprise me how many car drivers ignore these warnings?

I got flashed by a static camera driving whilst knaxkered at 5am, 80 in a 50. Stupid driving whilst tired. Saw a gendarme getting in position by a bridge about 100 km outside km towards rouen, deep in the. Verge undergrowth.

The temptation to get off the ferry at Dover and assume you've made it without a nicking & then push on a bit is massive. However be warned the kent police "roads" twitter feed @kentpoliceroads is proudly enouncing that they are busy picking up drivers coming back from Le Mans!! Even to the degree of saying "one driver at over 100mph who will probably lose his licence"
