Track Day Pics - & Hot brakes!
Discussion
My fiance and I had a great time this Saturday giving the car a good thrashing, first time I've had the 996 on a track (got it last month) - highly recommend Bookatrack.com - and their Elvington airfield days!
Just to let you know the 996 took most of the other cars 'round the circuit (some were not been driven too hard) -I did notice a lotus elise I chased was alot more stable on the fast sweepers than the 996 (60mph+) - my back end was a bit loose
Brake fluid overheated after a few laps tho' anyone recommend an upgrade for the fluid?

Was great -rear tyres were down to fabric by lunch, fronts are OK tho! Has the sports suspension (not full 30mm lowering) and spec. was perfect for me too
996 can be held in slides for a lot longer than the S2000 (circa 100mtrs at about 60mph) fiance was scared apparently

Fiance said people sat in the sun eating sarnies got up when I donned my helmet
got to keep my public happy
The yellow thing looked really nice, good colour and a serious cage, didn't chat with them but they did go past me a couple of time, was best looking one there for my money...was also a westie with two motorbike engines, sounded great but didn't get out much, sounded like gearbox probs maybe?
Easytrack have now got their 'monster' sorted (had front wishbones on upside down!) has an S2000 engine in which sounds like the perfect westie to me (love that engine).

Yeah, great pics - you're marrying the right girl if she didn't throw the engagement ring back at you after 100m tailslides at 60mph
I went to Elvington earlier in the year with Easytrack, and that twin engined car was there - I presume it is the Tiger not a Westfield though. Had a chat with the local engineer who made it. It did sound gorgeous although Tiff blew up one of the engines soon after. It did some 0-60 in 2.9 seconds runs after some teething problems. 0-100 was low 6s. He said he could build me one for mid twenties, but I plumped for the 964RS instead.

Oh and try to avoid the PSM (Traction Control) option as you can't fully turn it off from what I hear. You CAN turn it off but as soon as you brake (I think) it turns itself back on.
PSM Brakes individual wheels to keep you going in the right direction, which means on a track day you can get through brake pads quick! 996 feels stable enough to me, less snappy than my S2000 was and that had no TC
996 C2 is a lovely stable slider, can hang back end out forever on fast corners

that twin engine thing has got two Kawasaki ZX12 engines in it. it was on 5th gear a couple of weeks ago and Tiffany blew one of the engines apart doing a 0-60 run

What? On mine if you switch PSM off it stays off...I'll check the manual later...I would always have PSM as an option on any car I buy. You can always switch it off and frankly during wet road driving its nice to know that as well as one's own driving skill there's a computer *trying* to give you the edge in an impending accident situation.
PSM will help a lot on the exit of a fast corner if its your right foot thats the problem (OK if you want to tail slide it then you need to switch it off) but can't help as much if you turn in too fast on the entry - although its quite an improvement over regular Traction Control which just eases off the throttle for you...
The ABS *cannot* be switched off.
Don I'm not 100 percent sure about what I posted, it's what I've heard on Rennlist, which put me off it. Your right about it being far more advanced than other systems tho'
Not got it on mine anyway
so I can't talk from experience
If you can switch it completely off I'm all for it though.
Had a smart with unswitchable TC and it really got on my tits (still managed to roll it)

I use ATP Blue brake fluid in my 964 RS. Brakes have never faded in 2 years of hard track driving. I'd also consider changing the fluid every 6 months or so if your regualarly going to hammer the brakes. You also might want to consider upgrading your brake pads to
Pagid Blue. Orange/Black are even better but don't work too well when cold.
