Hi guys.

Summers here, heat is crazy....It's a must. I NEED TO FIX MY AIR-CON!

At first, it would quite happily pump out ice-cold gas. Unfortunately, it started making a right racket after I had it regassed, which I was told due to the idiots putting in too much gas.

Anyway, it's now stopped working completely. Light on the switch comes on, but I get no response at all from the pump.

What kind of price should I expect for someone to rebuild the pump? A new one is out of the question...Dealer wants over 2k euro plus vat, and most factors want about 800. frown

Thanks!

Check if the clutch is actually engaging first!

car at idle, bonnet up, press A/C button, listen for "clunk" from A/C clutch on the front of the pump. If there is no clunk (and in fact the centre of the A/C pulley doesn't start revolving (outer bit with the belt on spins all the time, clutch engages the middle bit when engaged)) then this could be for several reasons that have nothing to do with the pump itself.

(for example, too much system pressure, too little system pressure, or other elec fault etc)

Pehaps you should explain what you mean by 'the pump is doing nothing'.
Do you mean the clutch is engaging and the pump turning but the system is not cooling?

There is more involved than just a compressor that can go wrong. The system does not 'pump out gas' You have pressure switches, fans, magnetic clutches, radiators, expansion devices, control thermostats and the like. The compressor might not be engaging due to the system having lost its refrigerant charge , as to the reason why you got it recharged the last time round. Lots of reasons which you will need to diagnose better. 'If' it is a compressor, you cannot cost wise repair it and better of replacing with new or a decent second hand ( although sometimes difficult to prove) The worst thing with air conditioning is moisture and contamination, which when its sat on a breakers shelf in the damp is never good.
Yes, I am into air con as my job smile
