Thanks Drive2 but I decided to buy a new wishbone in the end. My old one was perfect until I left it with a local Garage to 'remove' the bushes as I was out of the country. They burnt out the rubber and cut through the outer sleeves of the bushes and right into the wishbone!!
Shouldn't they be paying for it then? You shouldn't need to replace them just for that, probably went a bit too deep with the saw blade. Any decent metal fabricating company could weld up the damage and grind/file the area back to shape. Then get them sandblasted and powder coated.
Where are you based, I can help if you're not too far from me..

Cheers Andy and yes this is the case and I did weld them and hone them to size but as an aircraft engineer I am just being over cautious as I'm getting very hard to please in my old age;) Could have even cut the bush carrier off and replaced that. The old guy doing the job was very competent back in the day but really needs to visit specsavers as the deepest cut was 2.5mm!

ooo, I've got a full set that needs replacing
Winter job, get them blasted and see if they are worth saving
I hope they're more solid than they look! Mine looked like that when I replaced them, and it was only once I'd got them off the car that I realised how bad they really were, and how little strength was left in them (due to the rust). The cross-member could virtually be pulled away from the wishbone by hand.

I hope so too! I've been round the car prodding it, hitting it and trying to pull bits off, I have a background as an Airframe structural engineer so i'm fairly conservative in these things by nature, but then I guess the Chief Engineer of the De Havilland Comet didn't think there was anything wrong with square windows.....
