I'd like to think that I don't talk to my Springer more than is normal, but I do sometimes find myself for example 'discussing' the weather with him or saying something about what I'm doing.

There's nothing wrong with me is there? Is there? At least I don't do what I sometimes see other dog owners doing and discuss other dogs we come across, or talk to him as though he's answering back wobble

I talk to my dog probably more than I should. But we are home together quite a lot and spend time together.

I don't talk to my cats as much, but then they are hardly ever in!

In our house we probably talk to the Springer as much as each other!

Both Hubby and I talk to her a lot and my elderly Dad chats away to her constantly.

She understands a huge amount, especially "food", "tea", "woods", "walk", "Grampa" and "beach" - sometimes she puts her head on one side as if to say "I'm trying but you have to use words that I understand!"

What's wrong with talking to your pet. After all ONE is thought not to abnormal when HE talks to his plants. And there's more chance of a dog giving you an answer . Say "walks" to ours first thing and he can't get his jaw round the words ,but he lets you know in no uncertain terms that he's ready - very vocal is mine .

I find myself murmuring reassuringly to my dog ("Good boy, Bosley" etc.) while doing something else then realising he's not even in the room.

We talk to ours constantly, and, which is definitely worse, they answer! We have voices for each of them and talk for them all the time. I got told off by my wife for changing the youngsters "voice" as it was his birthday today and therefore a "big boy" with a big boy voice!

Loads. Not in terms of conversation - I wouldn't describe my latest attempts at car maintenance to the cat or whatever, but certainly to ask how they are, call them over, announce dinner etc.

The chickens certainly talk back to me more than the cat though.

Phew. I feel better now! TBH I talk to him more than I admitted to, and I have a voice I use quite a lot which sounds like I think he would if he could talk.

It's just as well he can't talk as all I'd ever get would be a combination of:

let's go!
ball!
tickle me
I'm hungry
throw it!
come on!
ball!
I'm hungry again

When I talk to the Great Dane, I know he has no idea what I am saying but I like making him feel part of things. When I talk to the German Shepherd I sometimes think he might just come up with some answers.

All the time, when Bobo was alive he'd often start off the conversation, usually food or toilet based, but other times, I swear we had the odd chat - I was alwayd convinced he'd been here before as he was so chatty..

As for Murph & Mr Charles, it's mostly one way, but they do have their moments!!!
