Just about to change the gearbox and diff oil, any ideas if these have a drain plug or will they need to come out to have oil changed?

I'm no mechanic by any means so any advice would be appreciated, also transmission tunnel is very hot ? I have read that there is a rubber gator that can be changed ? That may reduce the heat ?

any must do maintenance and mods aside from the basics like tyres.

I hear the mx5 restorer is the man for body work, but minor maintenance servicing ect I am looking for someone with a good reputation in London.

Yes there is a drain for both.

The guide in the link below goes through everything, it's a MK1, but unless you have a 6 speed box the process is identical.

Remember it's american, so their drivers side is opposite to ours (Remember someone following that and not being able to find the drain plug as he was looking on the 'drivers' side.

I'm sure they say it in the link but I'll repeat it anyway just to make sure it's understood. Remove the refill plug BEFORE you remove the drain plug!!!

Also, on the dif the refill & drain plus are different sizes by 1mm and not sizes that most people have in their toolboxes. Something like 23mm & 24mm.

In that case, ignore what it says about topping up the turret oil. The 6-speed has no turret oil. It probably will need both shift boots though - get them from MX5 Parts.

Indeed, and you can fill the box up from the turret, much easier.

Plus the drain is on the side rather than the bottom of the box

I did the diff oil on my 2001 mk2.5 Sport and it was easy, and I'm no mechanic! Didn't even need to jack the car.

Make sure you undo the fill bolt first so you know you can definitely refill it.

The bolts on mine were stupidly tight so a tip that worked great was to put the wrench on the bolt then use a trolley jack to jack up the wrench.
