Due to being quoted £4 - £500 for the service with supplying own oil, I am thinking of taking the car to Northway Reading for £260 including oil with genuine parts.

Anyone had any experience with them - heard only good reports so far

Thanks in advance
Paul

Ray Northway can be a bit abrupt, but it's because he's busy.

Truth be told he'll always help out when he can and i have nothing but praise for the service he and his crew provide.

Stick with main dealer for next year or two. It will greatly help for resale and any goodwill claims (eg for leaking rear seal etc)

Cant fault Ray, he was brilliant with my old 3.2 and a mate of mine still goes up to his place with his 964, he swears by him!

My 993 had and still has, an full OPC history, which I choose to maintain (foolish some may say)I get all non-servicing related stuff done by Tognola.

Which ever route you take will make a difference to the potential re-sale of your car. The OPC service stamp route on a car only two years old, will keep it up with the best, only if the condition and miles are good as well.

The specialist route is still fine, its all down to you deciding on how much you want to pay today, against how much you might be prepared to loose tomorrow!

£250 saved today...against however much might be lost on resale value is a big gamble...

Now where`s that coin?

Northway is a decent garage I've never had any problems with them. But as your car is still within warranty (or so i would assume being 2 yrs old with only 24k on the clock), if an unexpected major component failure (engine expoldes etc) occurs within the warranty period and you havent had it OPC serviced then you could end up seriously out of pocket.

Why??? My understanding is that new legislation says that a warranty cannot be made void just because a car hasn't been serviced by a 'main dealer'? AFAIK - if the car is serviced on time in the correct manner by a specialist, the warranty must be upheld...

Can anyone shed anymore light on this?

Dick Lovett were £220 for my service and this included a valet and lo loader collection from Reading.

A non OPC history will mean main dealers wont want your car when you come to sell and potential private buyers may become sniffy.

For a £250 saving its a false economy.

When I bought my 993 tt I actually looked for non-OPC servicing after the first 3 years. Independents do a much better job and I was prepared to pay more for that and less if it was all OPC serviced.

Serviced by good independents means you are more likely to get a mechanically sound car and less expensive bills in the future.

Hi everyone - new to PH.

Having just bought my first 911, 1990 964 C2 Cpe, I think a complete and documented service history is more important than an OPC history. I would rather see a fistful of receipts that prove the work has been done. My car had a dealer history for the first 9 years and then independants after that, didn't really worry me as there were the receipts for the work carried out. I don't believe a dealer does a better job than an independant with a good track record/recommendation.
