B7 RS4 SD Card reader - Music Filing
Discussion
Sorry if this has been covered before, but before I go through the hassle of refiling all my music for it not to work, can someone explain if it's possible to do the following ;
I currently have around 120 songs which are filed aphabetically under one folder (ie, when I look at it on my PC it reads
E:drive / song one, song two, song three etc
This makes going through them all a real PITA as if I want to go from a song starting with B to a song starting with W then I have to scan through 100 odd songs on the move which takes ages as it's quite slow.
Therefore, is it possible that the SD card reader in my 2007 RS4 Avant will recognise if I store them in folders by Artist, thus reducing the initial files under each artist to around 10-12 ?
Ie, my file path would then read
E:drive / artist 1 / Song 1, song 2, song 3 etc
/ Artist 2 / Song 1, song 2, song 3 etc
I'm hoping it does, but I don't want to spend a few hours refiling everything if I then put it in the car and it doesn't recognise sub folders
Could someone let me know if it works please ?
Cheers
Graeme

I understand what you mean when you have to scroll down songs from A-Z; your audi will play the songs in an alphabetical order since you are under 'play all'. You just need to go back into the (circular) media-menu and go down to 'folders'.
All your directories/sub-folders will be exactly as you copied them onto your SD Card. You can have your albums under different sub-folders so you will see only those songs contained within it.

The post was from nearly 5 years ago now, and that car's long goneAll your directories/sub-folders will be exactly as you copied them onto your SD Card. You can have your albums under different sub-folders so you will see only those songs contained within it.
However, I don't think I ever did find solution for it

Doing what you wanted to do is eminently possible. However, I don't think I ever did find solution for it
The B7 just reads the folder structure and allows it to be navigated. So as long as you don't use special characters or broach path length limits (512 chars incl. track name IIRC) then you can do what you want

It's still a carp system really. A full media player that reads MP3 tags is FAR superior. Which I think is what the B8 has?
