Either that or there must be someone near you who can make cables up or check other ford fitments with 4 speed boxes, There must be something similar if not the same..Good luck...Ziga

Also try the specialist Capri, Granada and XR4 forums. Nearest gearing-wise is likely to be Granada. smile

Actually, gearing-wise, I think the 4 speed 280 is nearest to the 2.8i Capri....

The data I have, which I believe is correct says that (as standard), diff ratios give -
(speeds at 1000 rpm in 4th gear, i.e. 1:1 through gbox)

4 speed TVR Tasmin 2.8, 3.07 diff, 21.8 mph
Capri 2.8i 4 & 5 speeds 3.09 diff, 21.2 mph
Granada 2.8 4 & 5 speed 3.45 diff, 20.4 mph
5 speed TVR Tasmin 2.8 3.54 diff, 18.9 mph
Sierra 2.3, 2.8 4 & 5 s 3.64 diff, 18.7 mph

so according to this, the 4 speed 2.8 is nearest to the Capri, but the 5 speed is nearest to the Sierra. The 5 speed Tas doesn't go any fatser really as its 5th gear speed is 22.9 mph, which isn't that much different to the 4 speed, just an extra gear change.

Also for comparison, the 'S' series 2.8 & 2.9 use the 3.64 diff, making them geared close to/the same as the Sierra.

You're stateside right? We just bought a bunch from Germany. I know a couple guys got spares. Why don't you post up on the N.A. Yahoo board. I don't want to speak for someone else but I'd suspect someone will be willing to share. I don't know if mine is needed or if it is something else that is messed up so I'll try to get around to pulling it and seeing in the next week or so. If I don't need it I'll pass it on.

Interesting stuff.

What wheel and tyre sizes are they based on ?

Graham, I took those from the various workshop manuals etc, so they *should* be the original wheel sizes, but the data is only as good as the publisher....(just being honest !) What I have is -

4 & 5 sp Tasmin - 195/60 x 14
Capri 2.8 - 205/60 x 14
Granny 2.8 - 185/70 x 14
Sierra - 185/70 x 13

You CAN calculate effective rolling circumference of tyre (= turns per mile) which then allows you to calculate speed per engine rpm, if you have diff ratio too. I've posted this a few times -

Rolling dia = 3.14159 x ((width x asrx1270) + size)) , or in English, wheel diameter plus two tyre heights (in inches). (ie. 3.14159 x (185x70 x 1270) + 14) for a 185.70 x 14 tyre

Turns per mile is then = 65261/rolling dia (real inches per mile is 63360, but 65261 is 3% larger, which allows for tyre wall distortion, and seems to work well)

Then divide by diff ratio etc. and you have speed per rpm.

I accumulated this type of stuff when doing kit cars etc, and because I'm a sad geek ....
