Hi,

I've got myself confused shall we say regarding my next sports car and need some general pointers please.

My local dealer seems to be shy regarding discussing discounts on a new XKR or RS and I can't do with playing mind games and talking in riddles,so what
discount should I be looking to be offered.

I'm undecided on the brand really and have my concerns over reliability as if they perform like my Range Rover Sport with niggly problems,I doubt it will
be for me although my attraction is born from the automatic box and all round cruise ability factor.

I quite like the thought of the convertible but the coupe has its better virtues, what with the hatch for capacious luggage holding and may be for the better cosmetic
stance of the car.

So in a nut shell can you guys wise me up to the car, the brand and all that goes with it including any top notch dealers I should be looking at as I don't mind buying
out of town in this day and age.

Many thanks for your anticipated response as I await some one to switch the light on to what I should be doing.

Jags these days are quite reliable as the latest surveys say

Personally I go for the Coupe's, unless you want the car to have the roof down to say 'Look what I've got!'

I would look at pricing from the other end, say 'This £*** is what I'm prepaired to pay'

Ed50, the current XK shape has been out for 6 years. IMHO the recent facelift and intro of the XKR-S has saved the best til last. These cars are very reliable (any car can have it's woes however), but Jaguar have a very reliable V8, the ZF 6 speed 'box is faultless and suits the car to the ground. Running cost are comparatively low, excluding depreciation!

As for discounts, from my experience if you want to get serious, then a factory order is not the way to go. Buy a 'stock' or 'pre-reg' car, then expect about 15-20% off for an XKR, less for an RS. Go on the Jag site and build the car you want, luckily there are few options on spec as these cars are fuly loaded, so just chose the colour and aero kit you desire and then start phoning dealers to see what they have sitting in the showroom.

Stratstone have the largest number of Jaguar dealers, so therefore have the largest stock/choice, and should have the biggest discounts, so pin point you desired spec and make a call!

Feel free to email me with any q's......

My father in law works at a Jag dealership. Last week he said they had a number of pre reg XKR's sitting around the group with RRP's in the mid £80k's which they are putting out at £68k. Thats 20% off before additional haggling.

Expect similar off the XKR-S, expecially any in the blue colour, there are serious discounts to be had as Jag built more than they have shifted and its not proving that popular a colour.

We bought our XKR-S as an ex demo, 6 months old / 6k miles for £78k which I think is fair value. I am not sure if their are many / any about still. Charles or John at Hatfields in Wakefield are always very helpful when surfing something and as a dealer I can highly recommend them - they even ring you back when you leave a message!

It is the 3rd XKR we have had (1x 4.2, normal XKR and now the R-S) and all have been very reliable. We also bought an XFR recently, again an ex demo for £46k - Awesome car and if practicality is a requirement, it is a perfect all rounder.
