Can anyone help me?

M25 Sunday, torrential, Wipers stuck open at fullest stage of cycle....nightmare but managed to get the car home eventually - car is booked into an indy for resolution later this week. Have managed to return both blades back to their resting points by hand but they do not respond to any input from the stalk (rear wiper fine, front spray fine also)

So, can anyone prepare me/educate me on what the indy might find? New Motor is my assumption?

Most likely the motor that failed.
FYI : When the front hood is open (or the switch is faulty) , the wipers also stop working.

Before you go to a mechanic, check the fuse, if it's OK, run 12v to the motor from another power source to see if the relay is at fault - and my final tip (which should be familiar to owners of of the C5 Audi A6) try some WD40 on the spindles and work the arms up and down manually.

Thanks for the replies guys...

Just in from work, went out to the car to check for gremlins and would you believe the wipers now work!!

So, on the basis of the responses could I have a faulty switch that thinks the hood is open (possibly through water ingress whilst at speed on the road, which has subsequently dried), or is my motor / relay fooked and failing intermittently?

I'm also guessing the fuse is therefore ok given they're now working.......

Sorry if these q's appear obvious but I'm not an expert on Porsche electrics.....cheers again

Ah - the intermittent electrical fault - I do miss my old Land Rover, which provided hours of entertainment.

Your bonnet switch theory is a possibility, though you hope that the wiring on a modern 4X4 would be more waterproof than this; it could also be a bad earth. If the wipers are working at all speeds then your relay and fuse are OK.

You don't really need a Porsche specialist for this - a decent auto electrician will be able to check it out for for you.

As requested, and as predicted:

The Wiper Motor, in the words of the Technician, "is getting lazy".....apparently its not as simple as it either works or it doesnt - when on the way out it can choose when it wants to work until a terminal failure !! Ha Ha - nice!

The indy has seen this before in both Cayennes - Part numbers apprently crossing over with Touaregs.

Replacement price and order from Porsche to be confirmed, apparently 1 hrs Labour to fit (half that of Porsche).....

Would the part be cheaper if sourced from the VW dealer by any chance ?

VW dealers are not noted for cheap parts prices, though they may be cheaper than Porsche.

Euro Car Parts list a Cayenne Wiper Motor at £342.

£290 in the end + labour. It was in a Porsche box but didnt ask anymore than that. Not the end of the world, more the annoyance of having to replace something that in my eyes should last a bit longer than 7 years.

Thanks for all the comments guys...heres waiting for the next PITA
