I have to make this journey Friday leaving at 12pm. Google suggests taking the A406 North Circular all the way to the start of the M11, 89 miles, 1h48m.

I have only previously driven there from Farnborough via M3, M25, M11. From Brentford the M4, M25, M11 route is 114 Miles. Is the North Circular a bad idea on a Friday afternoon? I only really know south London.

Don't take the North Circular!

I do the Brentford to Colchester run about twice a month (although at about 2pm on a Thursday) and find a longer distance trip using the M4/M25/M11 is at least 30 minutes quicker than the A40/A406/M11 route.

the western stretch can get pretty busy on a friday on the m25.
just a thought as an alternative if it is. north circular round to the bottom of the m1, then m1 to m25, and onto the m11 and so on.

Another route would be A406/A41/A1/A505/A11 if the M25 looks bad
