Glorious sound on a lovely evening, flew over Stonehouse a couple of times and then headed out over the Severn towards The Forest of Dean.

It was the Rolls Royce one which lives at Filton. However it looks likely to be based at Glos now (they're putting it there temporarily to see if it works out for them). So you may well see it a fair bit from now on!

If it is going to be living at Staverton then for me, and my 6 year old who has never seen a Spitfire in the air, that is great news.

Good for the airport as well although no doubt some of the miserable locals will soon be complaining about the noise......

A Chinook made a quick stop off at Staverton a couple of years ago - the complaints to the local newspaper started almost as soon as the rotors had stopped turning!!!

Really good news if it is going to be based at Staverton, sorry old school, cannot call it Gloucestershire Airport.

I think me and Mr Nikon may have to pay a visit shortly then.

When I lived in Cheltenham I remember cycling to the Skyfame museum at the airport. I visit Staverton on the last Thursday evening of every month for a hot rod and American car meet.

There is almost a photo opportunity there with hot rods and spitfires.

The first air display I ever went to was at RAF Staverton over 40 years ago. I went there specifically to see a Spitfire in the metal as I had only seen them on film before. I still have a photo somewhere of me sat on the wing of a static Spitfire - I even had hair back then! I now work quite a lot in and around Cheltenham and Gloucester so maybe I will see it flying overhead soon. Good news.

I remember going to air displays there, think I saw my first Harrier there as well. They used to do motorcycle racing there as well and car racing IIRC.

They used to do bike racing but not cars as far as I know. The spit is tucked up in one of our hangars now with our King Air 350. I may have to go and have a closer look when I get back from hol!
