Well, my BMW e90 330d m sport got picked up earlier as I got its next service thrown into the deal when I bought it. The service is now due, so i booked it in and was told my car would be collected from my house and a courtesy car delivered at the same, great I thought, saves me rushing around to get to the garage.

So, earlier the door bell rings, it's the guy from the dealer I bought the car from and the 1st thing I notice is what I hope isn't the courtesy car, the colour is a pinky red and it's a 12 reg VW beetle. I get in it to move it and park it on my drive, it's not a bad place to sit, nice comfy leather seats, DAB radio, pano roof, DRLs is what I spot at 1st glance, it's only got 1200 miles.

I think the beetle is a 100% females car, it just doesn't suit male drivers, especially when your 6ft 2in and 16st like I am.

What's the best or worst courtesy car you've been given??

Your moaning about the free car you got when yours was in for service?

Very good...

Chill out, I wouldn't exactly call it moaning, more a tongue in cheek at my feelings on getting a near pink vw beetle as a courtesy car.

A few years ago I dropped my BMW off for a service at North Oxford BMW and my courtesy car was...

...a Rover 200.

Wasn't even a new one.

The best I have had would be the brand new Benz C-Class I had when I took my old 190 in for a service and the Jaguar S-Type I was given while my Sovereign was being serviced. Without doubt the worst were the Nissan Micra 1.0 auto, while my company Avensis* was being serviced. It noticeably slowed down when I switched on the air conditioning. Dishonourable mention also for the Mitsusti Carisma I was given every time my Galant went in for a replacement auto transmission. Its roadholding was so bad it was dangerous.

Edit: my dad was once given an XJ12 by an independent Jaguar specialist when his X300 Sovereign 3.2 was being serviced.

  • not my choice BTW.

If you knew what it costs to run a demo/courtesy fleet you'd understand my ire.

I am far from "moaning" about getting a free courtesy car, I appreciate the fact I have been given a car to keep me on the move.

In my OP I did actually praise the car more than I "moaned" about it.

Two years ago, I had a 1998 K11 Micra as a courtesy car. It was really rather discourteous frankly.

Last time we went to BMW we got a 520d M sport, really really nice place to be, had all the toys aswell which was even better (oh and someones Sandwiches in the boot hehe) would have gone for the bigger engine myself, the x20d engine is a bit too small for the 5 series imo. Got a poverty spec 1 series before that, not too bad but bland. Also had an X1 20d which wasn't too bad, not my cup of tea though.

My Impreza was in for repair and the dealer provided a bog standard Fiat Panda. The driving position knacker&d my back and it took a fortnight to recover.

Also the Panda was a sort of pinky/purple colour.

i wish I'd caught the bus!

My old mechanic used to have a rotating array of weirdness.

My favourite to get was either the 205GTI 1.9 or the Xantia Turbo.

You list your car as a diesel Toyota Auris, hardly soul inspiring...
