Hello folks

First time on PistonHeads! A friend steered me towards this site because I have a problem with my import Mark 3 MX5. I desperately need a wiring diagram - can anyone help?

About six weeks ago my car would not start. I thought it was the battery so charged it overnight and it still wouldn't start. The RAC came and took it to my local Mazda dealer. They couldn't get their diagnostics machine to talk to my car and said it was because it was a grey import.

My local garage (non Mazda) has now taken up the challenge. They disabled the thatcham imboliser and managed to talk to the dash, airbags etc. But they couldn't get a can reading from the ECU. They sent the ECU off to a firm in Essex to see if it was that but they couldn't replicate the fault. Having tried to fit 2 second hand ECU's we are still not able to start the car. It appears to be that imobiliser such won't turn off to start. We think it could be an electrical problem - but trying to get a wiring diagram for the whole car is proving very difficult.

Any help that you can offer would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks
Ellie

Have they checked the resistance on the CAN line? it should be 60ohms if its lower on of the resistors might be shot and that could stop the various ECU's talking to each other.

The mazda dealer unable to speak to it because its a grey import is rubbish IMO, EOBD/OBD2 is a standard so you should be able to retreive Diagnostic Trouble codes from it.

Yup, the import stuff is rubbish. Also, iirc, the ECU locked to the dash clocks, and when swapping one you must swap the other.

You need to find someone knowledgable on the subject - and a Mazda dealer, or generic Auto-electrics type place is not it.

Wherein the contry are you?

I believe 'dynotronics' (Miata.net), in the U.S. have been able to turn off the immobiliser system in the ECU for people who have NC's as race/track cars. It might be worth talking too. Paul Roddison (Roddisons Recovery) may also be able to help you as he races NC's and MAY have done a similar thing. I imagine you will be asked to prove it's your car and the reasons behind having the immobiliser disabled.

Regards, Doggydog.
