People warning approaching drivers of speed traps

Just having my lunch and stuck Radio 2 on, and Jeremy Vine was talking about some police somewhere fining drivers who flash their headlights to warn of upcoming speed traps.

I tend to do this, but some of the people ringing in were adamant that the drivers should be fined and in the interest of road safety. WTF?

Surely if they're slowing down it's helping road safety.

Also some old dear rang in to say she was taught to never, ever flash her headlamps, and if she wanted to warn other drivers of something, she'd use her horn.
