So, what next?

I've got up to 16k to buy an honest, sporty, practical car that looks good, sounds good and goes like it should. I'm not looking for a diesel this time as no matter how much I liked the D3 it still sounds like a tractor on a cold morning.

I don't do a great deal of miles but that doesn't mean I want a gas guzzler.....What appeals to me is affordable real world performance with some luxury thrown in.

I've only just started looking so the only cars that have caught my eye are:
MK 6 GTI
MK 5 GTI 30 Edition.
(I'm ignoring the R32 due to far higher running costs for little gain)

I'm not looking to get back into a 3 series or an A4...been there. I don't get excited about the running costs of M cars/ R/RS cars etc.

I know these 'what car' threads get tiresome for some but I quite like them. Trouble is I can come up with suggestions for other people I've never met but for myself? Nope.

Definately worth looking at an S3 and a Scirocco, or maybe a BMW 130. Mazda 3 MPS or a Volvo C30 T-5 might be your cup of tea too!

Next step on the ladder you have started climbing has to be a V8 B10s, non?

You can use the purchased money saved on V-power!

I've moved from a 135i to a mk6 golf GTI. A definite move down in performance but still a lot of fun whilst being much more comfortable/practical and cheaper to run.

I do get an occasional moment of regret on a dry clear bit of road though. I miss the power, rwd and the feedback.

Good suggestions....I will have a look.

It's also worth noting that I'd prefer a 5 door. It's not essential but a preference.

If you can put up with the dag dag a tad longer have you thought about a remap+dpf delete? With the dpf delete the car will sound the same <3000rpm but above it will sound as close as you can get to petrol... in a diesel hehe

I was following a D3 about a month ago on the M1 just before J46, we were doing ~90 and I was driving an Avensis. He planted it, a slight puff of smoke and the car took off like I haven't seen in a long time. Completely unexpected, he must have easily hit 130+ before backing off. It made my morning smile

I hear you matt but I've had some pretty hefty eye watering bills lately so i'm looking for a car with 'parts bin' repairs. At least for a little while.

Mine the mono turbo and unlike the Bi Turbo Alpina have exhausted the re-map potential. Besides...i know it's lame but I loved it's looks but hated the sound. It's fine when your blatting about but I just never could get used to the chug chug when on idle or slowly going through town. The engine noise takes too much away from the car IMO.

Nice idea, but surely that'll depreciate like a stone? As much as I like some Alfa's, I'd never buy one with my own cash!

I should also add that It's NOT specifically a hot hatch I'm looking for....the 535I in M Sport guise is as quick as it is subtle.

eta

NOT

It's funny you should post that as I have been looking at it. Not sure what I think of it yet but it's certainly different and to be fair it looks pretty good.

Not into Vauxhalls...don't ask me why as I don't know but I just don't like them.

Thanks for the suggestions

I had the use of a Cooper S for while...loved it. Sounds great, loads of fun but unfortunately just too small for me. I'm portly hehe
