I've been in Saregarme, near Dalaman, for 4 days now and honestly can't remember the last time I had had this much fun and relaxation. I'm in a rented villa next to a pool with a cigarette and drink enjoying 31 degrees of sun with not a single cloud in the sky.

We went on a 12 island trip yesterday and quad biking tomorrow.

The locals are friendly and incredibly hospitable and the kebabs are lush.

Anyone else had a good time out here?

You'll have a wonderful time... until you get back to Dalaman airport on the way home. Word of warning - take some food to the airport with you. A basic burger and coffee is £20 - I kid you not! You can't take in liquids, and even a plain coffee will cost £6.

Captive audience, and they rip you off in a way Ryanair can only dream about!

Mark.

Its OK if you're away from the airport. Prices are a little cheaper than UK.

We've been lucky as we have done most of our cooking.

The comments made about the airport are very close to the mark. I was there two weeks ago. Yes bottles of water can be very expensive. One thing i will say, both my wife and I took a 1.5 litre bottle through each in a large hand luggage bag and neityer of us got stopped. Even if they do stop you they just smile and ask you to put it in the bin. Whats to lose when its 28p in the local market.

Pleased you are enjoying your holiday the weather is poor here so enjoy it while you can.
Regards

ears

Can I assume it was bereft of endless tat shops, karaoke bars, and "restaurants" tabling not much more than full english breakfasts / steak & chips / Ham & eggs / Sky football?

If it was, I'm mildly interested.

It's quite a small village just outside of gumbit (sp?) and whilst it does have its fair share of tat shops (it is Turkey!), there's no nightclubs and it's all rather sedate and relaxed. We did end up singing Irish folk songs in a restaurant called the Yali one night with the Irish/Turkish owners, which was a bit surreal, but the only nearby hotel we would have disturbed was ours, and all 18 guests were in the restaurant!

I found the locals to be really friendly, the food was mostly good and reasonably priced, the view of the bay was lovely and the weather was perfect; cloudless blue sky with a slight breeze.

Iphone shot of the bay so apologies for quality.

Just got back from a bone shattering drive in a Renault Stylus to Marmaris. Utter utter dog st. Nice women though. And my ears are now bleeding due to excessive noise from the back alley nightclubs.

I like Olu Deniz. Managed to avoid the majority of stuff supposedly aimed at Brits. Wouldn't go for two weeks though!

Looking at Turkey again for a week in October, but will probably try something different.

Oh dear. We're staying at the Imperial for a week as part of our honeymoon this year... It looks to be a good distance away from the town so should be suitably quiet and a cut above utter utter dog st I hope!

Just back from 10 days at the Marmiris palace which actually as an Icmelor address, it's 1/2 way between the two, had an excellent time, superb weather & 2 earth tremors.

Highly recommend the hotel for families, great pools, great water slides not in the slightest bit rowdy, 15 minutes walk into Marmaris for the genuine fake gear and 10 minutes other way to Icmellor for a decent meal out.

Can confirm airport prices are a cut above the average, can also confirm even though bags where x-rayed twice we to found we inadvertently took 2 bottles of water through, they where intended for consumption during the transfer but not used, didn't realise we still had them until 1/2 way through the flight.

Cartons of drinks never get picked up at airport check-in in Turkey.

And if you've ever been to Turkey before you should know to eat before heading off...
