Whilst out running last night my Achilles tendon became extremely sore. I put some ice on it last night but woke this morning and I am hardly able to
Put any weight on it.

Would I be best going to see the doctor, go to a&e or visiit an injury clinic?

I am hoping its just sore and not an actual tear.

I would go GP. GP will likely give you strong anti-inflammatories and see how you go. If there is no improvement in a few days you will get referred on. May then get it scanned to see if it is just iflamed or torn. Treatment is largely the same unless it is a severe tear- Ultrasound / massage / physio etc.

If you have private medical cover -then use it.

I am not medically qualified - I have hade the same problem myself.

Mine swole up to the same size as my calf once, doctor said rest and ibroprufen.

Still uncomfortable now, and i'm years down the line, think i'll be living with it and have to be careful.

Have seen the Dr now and he thought it was only a sprain and has prescribed anti inflammatory tablets.

Fingers crossed, just need to try and rest it now as much as possible

Rest (min 6 weeks), gentle, progressive stretching and double check trainers are correct for your gait; the well trodden path to Achilles recovery... Good luck!

Yes.
Rest, rest, rest.
And after that, see a physio.

I also experienced this late last week - woke up on Fri and couldn't put any weight on my right foot as my achilles/bottom of calf was so sore. It has dissipated somewhat over the weekend, but its still feels quite sore/tight. Thing is, whilst I was at the gym on Thurs, I didnt do a leg workout. I'm at a loss!

Do you use free weights? Almost every standing exercise affects it to some degree.
I have cut out all pull movements (I do heaves now, no ankles needed.biggrin), and limited my squats/presses by weight. Heavy push pressing really hit it.

I do, but for the past 3wks I've massively reduced the weight component as I've been focussing more on cardio-based workouts. I dunno - I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with the change in my workout?

It's possible if you have an exercise that is hitting that area for for multiple (100s?) of counts. High rep work can have the same effect thought not as striking I have found.
It really is a bugger to have a dodgy ankle.

Nope, not multiple of 100s (even the thought makes me feel illbiggrin). More like HIT work. Yep agreed - the pain wasn't very nice on Friday. Hoping it will continue to dissipate and not return.

Google Alfredsons Eccentric Exercise protocol for Achilles tendinopathy that will give you advice, suffering with mine more than ever at the moment and high impact exercise is a struggle at the moment.
