An E60 M5 with over 200k miles on her; fair dues for such a highly strung engine...

I would disagree that the engine is highly strung. While it revs to 8000+ rpm it was designed to do so - materials, weight of components, precision of manufacture etc. Now, if we had an ordinary Fiesta engine revving there with no engineering taking the ordinary bit into account, then that would be a highly strung engine (or grenaded), whatever you prefer smile The S54B32 is more "strung", yet 150k miles is not unheard of...

Fair enough, I probably used the wrong word - I guess I meant such a "high performance" engine rather than highly strung. Encouraging, nevertheless, that it can take such mileage.

My E36 M3 evo has done 165k and is only used and abused on track now... still goes like the day I bought it and engine is still spot on smile

I have to say I do love the M engines, they are better than any other manufacture IMHO

I remember a BMW salesman that I know very well telling me that the fastest E36 M3 he'd ever driven had 100k plus on it. They took it in as a part ex and kept it for a week with a few of the dealership staff taking in terms to take it home for a blast each evening biggrin
