My ageing Clarke one works OK but isn't low profile or high lift, plus I want one with a rubber jack pad, and while I could use an old bit of tyre or a hockey puck/block of wood, I don't want the car slipping off eek

So, relatively low entry, relatively high lift, no worries about weight or about lifting capacity as it's not going to do more than lift the front half of a 1.5 ton car for long enough to stick axle stands/ramps under it.

The Clarke range looks pretty good, I see their aluminium racing jack (what's its 0-60 time? wink ) gets good reviews, but it's a bit on the pricey side. Costco do a decent one I think (Arcan?) but I'm not a member and need it pretty quickly.

What do you guys use?

The cheap aluminum jacks are a waste of money IME, you can get something vastly more robust in good old steel.

Are these the Arcan ones that Costco do now?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ARCAN-3-TON-PROFESSIONAL...

They look like a decent bet - all the other low entry ones only lift to 35-40cm

I got this one, its on offer at the mo for 40 quid if you use the click and collect ie order online collect instore. Its all steel so pretty heavy, but will last well. Has quick lift to go up to the bottom of the vehicle. Goes very high as its for 4x4s. But conversely means it isn't that low so check the minimum is ok for your car. I run my car up onto two lengths of wood before using, to make the car higher (my car is lowered). Its ok on normal cars like Nissan note etc

I've got a 3 tonne Clarke jack: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/...

I'm sure I paid nearer £70 for it but it was a few years ago. It's not as low profile as the Arcan ones at 120mm, but lifts to a good height which is why I chose it. It's pretty heavy, but as it lives in the garage it's never been a problem.

It just gets under the front valance of my 9000, which is lowered on Eibach springs. You can buy the rubber pads on ebay, but I tend to use a block of wood cut to size to protect the car.
