Just had my renewel quote from Tesco Insurance £498, Paid £414 last year.

Searches the web and best I have come up with is:

Post Office £332
Admiral £344

Both are £500 excess and include courtesy car, legal cover, windscreen cover etc.

Anybody had any dealings with the Post Office or Admiral.

Should say I am 53 years old, retired and full NCB.

I've had both. Never needed to use the Post Office policy though.

Admiral (and Elephant in a separate incident) were excellent on a major claim which was my fault. Was very impressed.

I would say always pay the little extra for the hire car thing (which may be what is now referred to as the courtesy car) as I didn't and got stuck with a tiny Renault Clio when I smashed my 7 seater people carrier just before a Christmas holiday!

I now have Admiral multi-car which have been by far the cheapest quotes for the last 3 years (on a 996 Turbo).

Another vote for Admiral Multicar- Elephant. Very reasonable and professional call centre.

Good call centre is a must, clear, fluent english speakers and efficient. I have experienced neither in some cases...............

I always recommended Henderson Taylor previously, but their renewal quote looks quite high - I've called them though and waiting to hear back to see how they shape up when given a target.

Currently £600 is my best from esure - I'm 33, no points and NCB of 6 years or so - on a Cayman S in a fairly good postcode.

Currently HT are £250 out, but, as I said, I'm giving Matt the chance to requote something more competitive, but I think they're gonna struggle to beat esure to be honest.

I was with Henderson Taylor last year, but dropped them this time. Their renewal quote was not even slightly competitive. Matthew said it was because Aviva have whacked up premiums for policies that include commuting, which is essential for me.

Renewal premium they quoted was over £400 up on last year. By moving to Admiral it was £285 down on what I paid last year, and nearly half of what HT quoted.

HT might still be ok if you only need a SDP policy, but unlikely for SDP+C.

Admiral multi car came up trumps for me also, nobody came close, I was already with them on my other car but no ncb on the porsche so they took it off my other car gave me an introductory bonus on the existing car and only cost me £200 more for the pair in the end which was cheaper than I was being quoted just for the porsche. Only downside is I restricted the mileage to 5K and after 6 months I am practically there so need to contact them, not sure what I am going to be charged for increasing mileage though?

Perhaps you're the reason HT's letter now specifically asks you to call if you aren't commuting in the car (which I'm not). Soon the Cayman will be our only car, but when the missus gets a new car I'll need a multi-car policy, so wonder if it might make sense speaking to Admiral now. Thing is I have no idea what the missus will want/need - it may be a £2k snotter that costs peanuts to insure, or it may be something rather nicer - expect a thread soon asking what car to park alongside a Cayman. I quite fancy a hot hatch - but I'm from Essex, so I always quite fancy a hot hatch.

Will have to be a go faster fiesta thenbiggrin
Speak to them, I think you will struggle to beat them for a multi car.

I had the same thing in my renewal letter so I am guessing they have lost a fair few customers as a result of Aviva's actions.

Definitely worth considering Admiral now. They said to me that if I decide to get a second car and take out a multi-car policy it would mean siginificant discounts on both. They also said I could start a multi-car policy at any time; the policies for any cars added would be quoted until the policy on the first car runs out, so they would eventually start and finish at the same time. Sounds like it would take the hassle out of insuring multiple cars.

Well how pleased am I that I took an interest in this thread, prompted me to get my policy out to sort the annual mileage and when I looked I only had it down at 4k a year and nearly up to 5k already, anyway I spoke to them and it cost me a whole £23 to increase from 4k to 10k, excellent I think, just imagine if I had had a claim it would have been sorry sir you have exceeded the annual mileage, oops.

How do they know how many miles you've done? I don't recall them asking for mileage when I insured the car? I'm always honest anyway, but just curious.

Gonna have a look at a quote from Admiral now. The big thing for me has always been avoiding companies that require Trackers. I had one on my Box to get in with DirectLine and thought it a good idea at the time, but I've totally changed my views on that now.

ETA: On a single car Admiral horribly uncompetitive...shame.

It would not be hard for them to find out if they thought they could get out of a claim, the mot is one way I guess, all available on line now, or if like me you purchased the vehicle with ex on clock, insured it and a year later has twice the insured mileage on it, bingo they have you again.
