Hi all

After a year with a 997 GTS I sold it on Monday to Hatfield OPC who were a delight to deal with. The car was fantastic and immaculate but with a 5 month daughter and being a weekday commuter by train, I just wasn't using it. That, coupled with continued steep depreciation was making it an expensive ornament and I was losing sleep over it.

I've now bought, and collect on Wednesday, an immaculate 996 C4S with only 19,000 miles from Paragon. Again, a lovely bunch of people to deal with. The car appears to be absolutely perfect and comes with a two year warranty giving me the same peace of mind as my one year old car. It also means I get to put a load of money back in the bank!

I'm really quite excited about it. I think the C4S looks so right and although there are mixed opinions about the 996 generally this model has always looked the business IMHO. Although the depreciation may not have bottomed out it will be less steep and might in a few years start to creep a little. The car doesn't have sat nav which I am actually viewing as a positive. The old sat navs are functionally poor and look so crap. Instead it has quite a smart factory upgraded stereo and Bose.

The sweetener is that every cost so far associated with the car is half the price! Tax, insurance, no tracker insisted upon by the insurance company. What's not to like!

Yes I did. In appealing weather conditions with driving rain. It didn't have the outright speed of the GTS but the confidence it inspired was really impressive. The GTS's outright speed was incredible (as was the noise it made) but lets face it - the majority of time there is traffic or using the power is licence inducing. And I have a 968 Club Sport track toy for the adrenalin!

The CS4 is easily the best car I've driven in the wet. Even more so than my 2011 E class. Even in really wet conditions, the CS4 drives as though it's dry - I've not once felt it aquaplaning.

Superb choice. Might not be the fastest, but the handling is top notch.

Owned a 996 C4S for a couple of years and loved it, my first and only 4wd Pork but I would have another. Best of the 996 IMHO and a good move, but did you not consider a 993 as you were going retro?

Oh, I did, I did! I looked at several and would love one. The main problem is availability of good cars and I'd really want a mint C4S. If I see one I may well buy it (this will not go down well with SWMBO!) as they are increasingly hard to find in good order.

That, coupled with the improved practicality of a 996 (I can get a baby seat in the back once my daughter is 9months old) meant that for now the 996 is a better car for me.

I LOVE the 993 though, truly beautiful.

Fine choice sir.

I assume that as you reference the sound of the GTS your 4S does not have PSE?

Unfortunately it doesn't, and seems too expensive to warrant retrofit :-(

Hey Buddy,

I'm hoping to do the opposite in a few years. I love my C4S mine had done equaly low milage but had the sat nav and PSE. I changed the sat nav over for the latest pioneer unit with everything and it is awesome. I have the bose too and portiacraft did the job. I same job was quoted by paragon slightly more but not much. Use some of the spare cash and get that done with a pse.

Well it's tempting and I've seen seem really neat sat nav installs etc. At the moment though, I think it'll keep it bog standard. There's something quite nice about a totally original car!

I dont disagree, I geared myself right up to get the car and told the wife I woudlnt be spending anymore. however I like music and the bose system is pukka but was getting tired of buring cd's and the mega drive looking satnav. The system was a bag of sand including amp and install. its a great system though, parrot bluetooth, sat nav with speed cam alert, ipod, cd, dvd.
however if I had to choose pse all day long!
