Direct Line Underwriting are total idiots.

They email me asking if I would like a quote for my Porsche, go online and I cant get a Porsche as its over the online value.

So ring them up, go through all the questions, then get on hold while they speak to underwriting.

They then say they don't accept Porsche VTS as is not a Direct line approved Thatcham system. Which I find hard to believe. They then say they will give me a quote if I agree to replace it with a approved one. Which I don't agree, as at present never had a issue getting insurance with it. So then they won't even give a price based on the fact if I did have a approved thatcham system. Which I kind of understand but a bit annoying.

So is Porsche VTS not Thatcham approved, as find that very hard to believe. Also find it hard to believe, Direct Line have any Porsche customers at all, as doubt many Porsche drivers are going to replace a VTS system just to move to Direct Line.

Anyway thats last time I ever ring them up for any insurance. If they are that silly getting a quote from, imagine what would happen if you needed to process a claim.

Just thought I would air my views

Richard

Frustrating. Direct Line are incorrect. The VTS system (which is actually a Cobra tracking system) is Cat 5 - it is listed as so on the Thatcham website / pdf.

I bet that'd invalidate the extended warranty...

I had been with them for quite a few years until I got my Cayman and they flat refused to insure it without a tracker.

Once the chap I got at Admiral was confused at what a Porsche wasbandit

I now prefer the specialist insurers even if costs a bit more.

That's really odd. I got insurance from them online for my CS4 a while ago and Porsche VTS was in their list of tracking devices (I seem to remember it was called "Porsche Vehicle Tracking System" or something similar).

But, they wouldn't insure me with 0 no claims bonus (I got mixed up with my other car while arranging insurance with DL and assumed wrongly that the no claims bonus applied to me, not just the one car at a time).

I therefore cancelled the DL insurance and went with Tesco.
