Well after a 2 hour blast from St Malo to Le Mans, we've finally arrived at Hotel Arbor - Geez I didn't realise this place was so close to the circuit - about 30m from the Mulsanne Straight - just coming out of the 2nd chicane! As a first timer to Le Mans, god the noise!! Corvettes easily sounding the sweetest, but those Porsches on the upchanges.....spaff....Even some of the diesels have a certain emotion to them. Not quite as silent as I thought. Only been here a few hours but absolutely loving it! A pic of the old steed grabbing absolutely no attention away from the Lambo and Porsche! Hope everyone arrives safe and well

An old git says - you should have been there in the Panoz days - that was noise 
Older gits are welcome to tell me I should have been there in '68 or whenever!

+1They were *properly* LOUD !!!
I vaguely recall a comment from James Weaver when he drove one the first year they competed (the mixture of heat and noise was not condusive to endurance racing, at least as far as the drivers were concerned) when he mentioned that blowing up the engine was the best improvement they made to the car all weekend !
Mighty as the Panoz was, the 1980s Mazda 787B rotary that got a 3 lap airing last year to celebrate it's 20 year anniversary, was unbelievable. First time it went past I thought 'what's all the fuss about' - driver obviously familiarising himself with the track and car. Second time around there's a growing demonic shriek with intermittent cataclysmic bombardments and I've said to myself five or six times 'here it comes', but still the noise gets louder until suddenly it's on us and my senses are utterly blown. Third time around I've regressed to eight years old and my loathing for the diesel racers is redoubled.
Corvettes are all well and good, but I have always preferred a howl to a growl, so the 458s and even the Toyota have a certain aural appeal to me.
Still will never understand the deisel hate. It is 4 cars providing a bit of variety, with 46 big loud cars providing yet further variety. Yes if it was everywhere I would agree, but it is less than 10% of the total entry.

Oh yes - I recall one of the drivers saying it was like being in a metal dustbin while some large chaps battered it with baseball bats. I suspect "we" enjoyed it more than they did They were *properly* LOUD !!!
