God help me!

Ignored a warning from Austec last year that my coolant hoses need replacing, rocked up at hospital last night to visit my dad just as a cloud of steam pours out from under the bonnet. Fearing the worst I call the AA and then went a visiting. 45 minutes later the AA arrive. Luckily it turned out to be just a split coolant hose, the split was where the jubilee clip clamped the hose to the metal bit (see, getting technical now hehe)

Anyway, Mr AA moved the pipe up/clip down and got me going, but I have foolishly? just ordered some new hoses (and the manifold rail thingys) off Tim @ ACT with the intention of having a crack at fitting them myself (OK, I admit, I'm going to ask a mate who knows his way round an engine bay to help). I mean, how hard can it be? :cough:

If it all works out then I can add coolant pipework replacement to my extensive list of DIY jobs that I have done in 9 years of ownership (ok, ok, the only other thing on the list is a battery replacement paperbag)

I spit in the eye of those of you who called me a 'cheque book owner'. Pah!

Dont do it!
Its important to stick to your guns and not get your hands dirty.
I used to be able to say I have never been to Wales or Essex and have never been to a football match. Sadly I allowed a supplier to take me to see Chelsea play and I can no longer make that same claim re a footie match. Somehow my life seems less complete now.

Mark.

Lots of potential for things to go slightly wrong. Chances are the Temp gauge capillary will fail, the silicone hoses are more difficult to fit than the more compliant rubber hoses, the will clips need re-tightening, so you need to make sure you can get to all of them without having to remove anything, not as easy as it sounds.

I definitely recommend bribing a Cerb buddy to supervise.

You're not filling me with any confidence hehe.

Maybe I should return to form and just get a local garage to do it (ie cheaper than an 'indy')

The box of hoses will arrive, you'll open it and look inside, look at the engine bay and call Austec. That's my prediction but happy to be proved wrong smile

It will be a horrible job frown

You will have to remove the front panel, air box and air intake pipes, then cross your fingers that none of the bolts snap off.

Loads of clips will break and the old hoses will be glued on by crud and oil smile the new hoses will probably then need cutting to size.

I got the garage to do mine smile

Good Luck thumbup

+1

(M3John has regaled me with many a FUBAR tale....)

BTW, which water rail manifold thingies??

These;

or these?

While your doing it, might as well get a new thermostat and heater matrix pipes if they haven't been changed in the cars life either.

The bottom ones. The one with the temp senders in are a right pig apparently?

You know, I've really gone off this idea now. When the parts arrive I'm taking it all down to the local mechanic. Fark this for a game of soldiers!

I'm sure we'll be able to sort it in a morning for you with ease mate. wink
BTW don't forget to go and grab new anti freeze and Water Wetter (if you use it). Do you have : jack, axle stands & tools? I can bring my own.
Also, we'll have to check the condition of the capelery (sp?) connection before we undertake anything as this is the most crucial part !
