Lightweight Waterproof Jacket.....?

As the title suggests, can anyone recommend a decent lightweight waterproof jacket that does not cost a fortune?

I am taking part in the L2B this weekend and looking at the forecast think it would be prudent to pack some sort of waterproof. I don’t currently own one, so when it rains I usually get wet – which is not usually a problem as I am able to keep moving and keep warm.

Reading some of the horror stories of people being held at the top of Ditchling Beacon for ½ an hour, or being stuck in a slow moving ‘swarm’ of BSO’s I suspect the potential for getting wet and cold is quite high.

Looking for something lightweight, that I can fold up and stick in my jersey pocket, won’t cost a fortune and is breathable – does any such jacket exist?

Only thing is it does not breath too well. Apart from that, can't fault it.

Keep one in my Camelbak.

My experience is proper waterproof just makes you sweat more so you end up getting just as wet from the inside. I find that as long as I can keep the wind off, it doesn't really matter how much it rains. Arm warmers and gilet do the trick for me in these sort of showery conditions. Obviously if it's full on chucking it down when I leave I will wear my softshell jacket

My Endura Pakajak is great, but as itsnotarace says a gilet is a good alternative that you'll get more use out of.

I've just bought a Polaris Neutron which is pretty good and very light. No rear pockets though which I miss.

You can pick these up for 60-ish quid and they're very breathable. The zip is rubber-sealed too which helps keep you dry.

I have a cheapo one from Mountain Warehouse. I won't pretend that the fit is faultless, but it's waterproof, light and cost about £30.

I have this Castelli jacket and its good at keeping the wind and rain out. Ventillation isnt very good however and I did find that when I got home I was just as wet inside as I was outside, YUK!
