I rather feel the itch to go for one of the following next...

- Skyline R32 or R33
- Mitsubishi Evo (6 most likely, due to their chunky good looks)

It will be after I have moved and stopped doing so many motorway miles. The main use will be local running around, country lanes, with the odd trip out on the motorway. Both cars appeal for their performance in all weathers. Not bothered about runnig costs etc.

So any thoughts on pitfalls, model preference, owners opinions etc? Thanks smile

Was thinking about a R33 GTR myself...

Are these usable as daily drivers? What about reliability (assuming close to standard) and can they survive through winter...?

GTR.

I guess both models would ideally be non standard, pushing sensible figures. Say 400bhp? Nothing too crazy as reliability would be ideal!

Funnily enough ( and it's not quite the comparison you were after ), whilst perusing Autocar MY99 this morning, there is an 8-page comparison of an R34 GTR and Evo 6 in Autocar 11/08/1999 issue.

Might be an interesting read for you.......

I'm sure it would be a good read, thanks. Although an R34 would be out of budget I'm afraid.

I've had both 33 GTR and Evo 6.

I would say the GTR is a better cruiser but the EVO 6 is better on the really really twisty bits and feels a much smaller car to drive.

Gearboxes can be a weak point on the GTRs if you start going mad with power but then again Evos can have problems with the AYC system etc, just make sure you have lots of cash for super unleaded and a £2k reserve for any minor repairs!

The reserve fund and fuel won't be an issue. However if one car proved to be much more reliable then it may tip the balance.

I'm not really an Evo buff although I have noticed some versions seem to have ditched the AYC and other bits (RS models I think). Which variants do you guys rate?

RS would have been the one I would have for simplicity but these fetch a premium and can come with horrible interior and smaller brakes in standard form. Tommi Mäkinen would be the one to go for as a future investment IMO.

You cant directly compare them. evo with some mods will be epic a-b but a gtr with some mods and the RB engine = massive power massive boost massive smiles.

ohhh to hard to choose frown((((((((((((((((((((

both awesome both different :/
