Gents
Am currently racing my Tiger, I have got a Ford zetec silver top with twin 45 webbers and ALPHA ign, it is currently pushing out 158 bhp, however if I have the money i am looking at uping the power this winter, I have asked around and don't know whether to get more power out of the silvertop I already have or go and buy a second hand black top and start with that, my silver top has a race line sump on it which hopefully fits a black top?
I have been told to look for a black top from a 04 plate or later focus. What is the reason? Which blacktop should I go for? an ST170 or a standard blacktop, I believe black tops have solid lifters which allows for more power.
I dont want to spend huge money as want to keep the 45's and the Alpha ign. Looking at posible race cams, ARP bolts, using my existing raceline sump and some kind of ported gas flowed head.
Apart from the bolts which I obviously have to buy new where is the best place to look for second hand parts.
Or is it just worth sticking with my existing silver top?
Not looking at going beyond 200 bhp.
Thanks
John

John (I know you from the 'light blue' forum...) - my best advice is to not spend that money! If I may be so bold, after your first season you should spend your cash on 1) suspension/brakes if needed, 2) track time and tuition, and then only 3) engine when you are absolutely convinced there is no more time to come in your current setup. Take it from me - I made the same mistake years ago - in your first season or two of racing, you are not as quick as the car is capable of... Sorry if that sounds harsh but it is likely to be true - plus once you are driving faster you may decide the Tiger isn't the car for you (no disrespect intended but they aren't the quickest Se7en-esque chassis out there). Happy to take spears on the other forum!
