Is there any laws about this ?

A certain company in south yorkshire (01709) region have a limo that is an old fire engine. Still marked up, but where it says South yorkshire fire brigade it says south yorkshire fire limo services. Now these chaps dress up as firemen drive the fire engine with siren and blue flashing lights on.

My other half pulled up the otherday for it and to her horror had screaming girls outta the window. Think the BIB should take a closer look!!

I would have thought that the blues & twos would be an offense, for sure.

Not sure about the rest though.

MV Con and Use Regs state that no siren can be fitted to a vehicle, except one used for "Fire Brigade purposes" This is not defined.

Likewise Under RV Lighting Regs prohibits the fitting of a blue beacon/special warning lamps to a motor vehicle except an emergency vehicle which is defined as "vehicle used for Fire Brigade purposes".

It would appear that old Fire Engines never die as many a Vintage Show has a plethora of these in full livery and in road worthy condition and driven with impunity to these events. Same applies to old Police vehicles.Whereas the later there is an offence of impersonating a Police Officer, if the evidence supports, I can find nothing similar in respect of Firemen other than Fire Inspectors issueing certificates.

Funny habits in South Yorks as FiF will tell you.

Oh just had a brainwave, that's Streetcops territory is it not ---- get him on the case.

And seeing as it is a Rotherham area number "you may very well say that DVD but I cannot possibly comment "

I've been in enough deep water previously with SWMBO for making comments about that parish and the inhabitants therein......

Easy - remove the siren.

Even easier - remove the bulb, socket and associated wiring and you no longer have a light, but a blue coloured glass thingy. I would have thought that the prerequisite of a lamp is that it can emit light. Hence the name light.

Nope, it also covers anything resembling a "blue warning beacon".

As for fire engines, as long as is capable of pumping water (ie. has a working pump and a hose) and is registered as a fire engine then it can display blue lights and (I think) be fitted with a siren. Not sure about use on the roads - if these limo services are using the lights etc. on the road they should be pulled up for it.

Tax and MOT exempt too.
