Just had the switchover and all seems fine

However, as I live in the dark ages, I've also got a VHS recorder. I've always watched tapes on the analogue channel 01, but now it's stopped working. I've tried to get it back but with no luck. I've got a Sony Bravia TV and the VHS is also Sony. Has anybody any idea how to restore my analogue channels so I can watch old tapes?

second, although I've got a DVD player, what should I look at buying so I can record and watch TV programmes?

Your VCR should still be where it was, on analogue channel 1, maybe when you did a retune you did not have the VCR switched on? Do a manual tune in analogue with the VCR switched on. Better still use a SCART cable to connect the VCR. Better still dump the VCR and get into the new millenium!

Get a Freeview PVR (hard drive recorder) the Humax ones are very good, if you've got an HD TV then maybe get a HD version, although these are more expensive. Get one with at least a 500GB hard drive as that determine how much record time you get.

I still have a VCR connected to play tapes. It should be connected to a SCART socket to get the best picture but you may have to change the "Channel" it plays on if you don't have an available SCART. If you have a modern TV it may be that you need to change from the Digital to the Analogue Tuner or "DTV" to "ATV".
