Screen replacement
Discussion
My screen needs to be replaced due to breakage. I called my insurance company who directed me to the usual suspects!
Having read and heard some horror stories on here and various meets I wasn't to keen to use the recommended installer.
I had a long chat with with a very friendly and helpful chap at my insurance company who was keen for me to go along to his recommended installer, after a lot of chit chat he sprung quite a surprise on me ..... A certain glass company were going to charge my insurance company £ 12,018.42 to replace my screen! Now you're are looking at this figure and thinking its a typo ..... NO I did the same, I asked 3 times to clarify the cost.
Long storey short I made a call to Jason at Str8six who gave a more realistic price of under a £1000.00, another call to the insurance company with my costs and all hell let loose! They called Jason direct to confirm the cost and then called me to give me the go ahead to use my chosen installer, they have also told me they would be looking into the costs quoted by there preferred installers!
Makes you wonder doesn't it!

Hello,
Replacement windscreens are readily available. There are two different types for the cerbera, early cars (up to mid 97) had a screen with a wider 50mm band at the botton (TVR Part No U0877). Later cars had a screen with a smaller 30mm band (TVR Part No U2375).
In either case... you can expect to pay £468.43 including VAT and refundable £50 surcharge. of course you'll need to get it fitted but it's not a difficult job.
Try Racing Green TVR if you need to order one...

Twelve thousand pounds

That would write off most Cerbs.
When I needed one my local Autoglass fitted it and were excellent. They weren't totally happy with the fit of the screen as it was a little tight in one corner due to the vagaries of Cerb production. Therefore they sent it of to be trimmed slightly and fitted it perfectly and with a lot of care for my brand new paint!

Thanks for the info, I have arranged to have it fitted by Str8six and I'm very confident that they will install it correctly.
It's good to read that some screens have been fitted well by the main stream fitters.
I've actually seen a screen fitted poorly and the resulting damage to the surrounding paint work ..... Something I was keen to avoid!

I had a massive crack in my screen when I bought the Cerbera... It wasn't insured and had no MOT so I had to do it independantly. I bought my screen from racing green (about £350) and had a man in a van fit it for £70 cash. Was a two hour job but YOU have to buy the windscreen rubbers first!!

Did someone not put the decimal point in the right place?
This is probably the price for a one-off from scratch.Did someone not put the decimal point in the right place?
Is it really necessary to replace the seal ?
According Racing-Green there is a lower seal part V0148 (1.5 meter length for Cerbs)
I'm unsure if the upper part (V0150) is also for Cerbs ?

A couple of ways to look at this:1. They've got the figure wrong;
2. They do 'charge' that, but as the top man of a well known windscreen company has said in a statement, "we give our best customers the best discounts". Their best customers obviously being the inscos.
How does that quote stack up against the value of the car?
Does this help? http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Fitting was under £100 and this included having the new screen sent to their headquarters to be ground and pollished to fit and then the edges sealed to prevent delamination.
