Should i be worried about booking a holiday to Greece?
Discussion
I haven't (yet), I went last year to Kefalonia, loved it and would like to go back to one of the Greek islands in July, with Santorini looking a likely candidate. However all the political shenanigans is putting me off slighty.
Should I be worried, obviously booking a package offers protection, as does paying by credit card, i just wouldn't want a relaxing holiday to go pear shaped.

The absolute worst case scenario is that Greece leaves the Eurozone while you're there. If that happens, you won't be able to get money from cash points and credit cards will likely stop working. It's possible (but unlikely) at that point that the hotel may shut or turf you out, depending on how they're paid for your stay by the holiday company. I would make sure that if you book through a big company you are at a hotel that has a rep on site just to be on the safe side.
Make sure you've got a couple of hundred Euros to hand so that you can get yourself back to the airport under your own steam.
Aside from that, you shouldn't worry about any unrest. The countryside of Greece has been very calm even when there have been riots in Athens.

Will Euros be any use if Greece leave the Euro?
What will happen is that bank accounts will be denominated in Drachma as from a certain point (my guess is midnight on a Sunday), but the real world will still work in Euros until the new currency is available. So there will be a few months where the "offical" currency is Drachma, but the real currency is Euros. We booked with first choice - going next September, they told us and confirmed in writing that the worst case for us would be cancelled with a full refund or transfer to same cost of holiday - but in bold on the letter it states it would be our choice!
I doubt very much a hotel would turf you out, regardless of what currency they are using in the country, if Greece leaves the euro the euro will still be used as a currency and widely accepted everywhere.
Just book a cheap deal with a decent travel agent.
